iPhone 4

After speaking with an Apple specialist and an ATT specialist, I will be visiting an ATT retailer first thing Tuesday the 15th and opening up an ATT account for an iPhone 4!!!

For 450 minutes, unlimited texting and 2GB data/month will be roughly $92. Sweetness!

Thinking of upgrading as well...I have the 3G, got it 12/31/08. My text message said "As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2 yr committment and an $18 upgrade fee."

I love, love, love my iPhone. But my 3G battery is dying more & more quickly. And I want some video! Hmmm, but I can't say it's for Mother's Day since that passed...

Tuesday is my birthday and I am going to upgrade from my 3G. This time I am going to preorder and have it delivered to my house. I stood in line for the 3G and have no plans to do that this time. Apple has a good track record of getting products to you on or close to the release day.

This is what mine says as well, except I got the 3gs the day it came out last year in June.

It doesn't say anything about "discounted" or "elevated" price...so I wonder if that means I get a price break or the lowest price, or what.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Thanks for sharing what your messages said!

For iPhone 4, you're qualified as "upgrade eligible" (same as new AT&T customers) at $199 (16gb) or $299 (32gb) because your current 2-year contract ends this year.

For iPhone 4, you're qualified as "early upgrade" at $399 (16gb) or $499 (32gb) because your current 2-year contract doesn't end this year.

Well the tariffs (plans) for the iPhone for for my network (o2 UK) came out today and they've taken away our unlimited data and replaced it with 500mb p/m, for lower monthly tariffs, to 1gb p/m, for the most expensive monthly tariffs.

I'm most likely to get a mid range tariff (about £45 p/m) which gets 750mb which hopefully I wont go over - checked my data usage today, nearly 10gb since August '08.

Still would rather it was unlimited tho so I didn't ever have to even think about it. Even tho every single network (carrier) in the UK now has the iPhone it hasn't made prices any more competitive.

Now just waiting for handset prices to be released. Am hoping that I'll be able to pick it up for free although I may need to get a 24 month contract for that, so most likely I'll try and stick to an 18 month contract and hope the handset price is similar to how the 3gs was on release, about £60 for the phone ($90 ish).

Really looking forward to this phone now :)

:goodvibes

The wife and I are SOOOO ready to upgrade our 3G phones to the new phone. I knew there would be a better upgrade than the 3GS and I think it has arrived!!!!

Thanks for the info! I'm just surprised that the same text means different things for different people.

Seems to me they should make it a bit clearer, don't you think? :)

I'm a little disappointed that they're going to limit the use of 3G. I definately like the fact that I have unlimited, as I don't worry about it. Seeing as I haven't had my 3GS contract for very long, looks like I won't have to worry about it for at least a year and a half :thumbsup2

From what I understand anyone with a current iphone is elidigable for the 199 or 299 price. I have only been an ATT customer since July 09( not up for an upgrade till 2011) and I called the Att # to check and in fact I am eligible for the upgrade pricing. There was a video on their facebook page that told you how to check and what it would say if you were eligible.:headache:

My brother went with the droid incredible, a VERY NICE phone. I am an apple fan but this phone is amazing. I think it's great that phone competition is so strong.

My DH bought me the iphone 3GS for Mother's Day last month. Do you think I would be able to upgrade or anything?

I don't work for AT&T or Apple.....just searched the internet...

Dealer iPhone Pre-Launch Price Protection, Closeout and Return Policy

If you were one of the unlucky ones who bought an iPhone 3GS before Apple dropped the price, AT&T wants to make it up to you. AT&T is going to offer a "one-time Customer Price Protection" for anyone who bought a 16GB or 32GB iPhone 3GS in the month before the price drop on June 7.

You can either get $50 credit for the 16GB or $100 credit for the 32GB off your bill, or you can exchange a new 3GS or 3G and have the whole purchase price put towards the purchase of a new iPhone. You need to get the credit within 30 days of purchase, though, so get a move on if you want to cash in; if you bought from May 7 - May 14, you still have until June 14.

text of the internal AT&T memo:

Quote:

This one-time Customer Price Protection will allow customers who purchased iPhone 3GS 16GB/32GB through a Local Dealer from May 7, 2010 until June 7, 2010 to receive a bill credit for the difference in the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price in May 2010 and the new Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price plus sales tax. This special one-time credit from AT&T will be provided to customers of Dealer regardless of what price the customer actually paid for their iPhone.

Customers who purchased iPhone 3GS May 7th through May 14th will have until June 14th to visit the original location of purchase and receive this one-time bill credit

Customers who purchased after May 14th will have 30 days to complete their price protection transaction by returning to the original location of purchase
The Price Protection Credit applied to the customer’s account will equal:
$50 for the 3GS 16GB
$100 for the 3GS 32GB

Return/Exchange Policy:

A customer who purchased iPhone 3G/3GS through a Local Dealer from May 7, 2010 until June 7, 2010, who would like to exchange it for iPhone 4 and pay the price difference, will be able to do so.

My DD wants my 3G iPhone to use as a iPod Touch.

We were going to do this for our daughter when she misplaced her iPod Touch. We took the old phone into Apple and asked them what we needed to do and they said it won't work. You would never be able to sync the phone with the computer again.
We might have had a tech who didn't know what they were talking about. It's worth asking but just wanted to tell you we were told we couldn't so it.

Sell it on eBay and just buy a new touch. The 3gs is still going for quite a bit for those that want to jailbreak it and take it to a carrier other than AT&T or not have a contract.

Val & I have had our 3G iPhones for almost 2 years now. We're ready to upgrade. We may not be the first in line on the 24th, but I expect we'll get the new on in the first few weeks. Looking forward to it!.

From what I have read Googling you need a SIM card. So, if the new phone comes with a SIM card you may be able to still sync up the phone.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking about doing. My phone is in very good condition but it's just a 3G and not a 3Gs as I skipped the last upgrade.

Just as an FYI, it will still work as an
iPod touch and you will be able to sync it. The only thing you cannot do without an active sim card is update the software. The new iPhone uses a micro sim so you could not swap them for the sake of updating your old phone. I still use my original iPhone as an iPod touch and it works great.

Well, "they" are absolutely wrong. I recently switched to Verizon (got an HTC Incredible) so I canceled my iPhone account. I can still use the iPhone as an iPod Touch. I can sync and play music on it, I can browse the net (via wi-fi), download email, install and update apps, etc. etc.

I can do just about everything I could do with the phone before I canceled the service except make phone calls and use 3G for accessing the net.
