We've never used Uber before; I've only had a cell phone since Nov. 2025. Once I download the app... how does this work? Is it easy/intuitive to use? About how much does it cost from MCO to Disney resorts (arriving at 8pm on a Sunday, need to head to MCO by 7:15am on a Wednesday)? Will they do a grocery stop... and do we have any guesses as to how much this could add on? I usually use the Mears bus but there are two of us; if the cost of Uber is similar, it sure would be faster/easier than doing Mears.

While you can add stops to an Uber trip, I think the best would be to book a trip from MCO to your grocery store. Do your shopping and then book a trip from the grocery store to your resort. You will get a different driver.

If you add a stop, you will feel rushed while shopping as the driver will want the stop to be 5-10 minutes max.

I would expect it to cost $60-$80 + tip.

You can ' practice ' to see how system works and see the cost. Pretend as if you were traveling today/tomorrow you would really book but get confidence.

If the prices seem high when you request your ride, power off and power on your phone. They say it clears your history on the app, and you may get a better price. I have tried it in the past and it has worked to get a lower price. Make sure you have the correct address you are going to in your app. Doing a pratice or pretend request will get it in your history.

If you are coming in on Southwest, Uber pickups are on level 2 by baggage carousel 14, right outside the door. Do not order your Uber until you have your luggage and are outside. Sometimes you get lucky and they are only 2 minutes away. Make sure the car you are getting into has the correct license number from your app. It can get busy in the pickup area.

Mears does take longer, but you know what the price is. With current gas prices and surge pricing you take your chances with Uber.

The price will vary with day, time, etc. My last Uber from MCO to a hotel near Disney was at 10 AM on a Friday. Fee breakdown says trip fare $21.33, plus Beachline Toll $2.21, plus booking fee $5.59, plus MCO airport surcharge $5.80, so $34.93 before tip. So possibly more than Mears with a tip. I have never attempted a grocery stop.

Once you download the app, you will need to make an account and add the credit card you'd like to use.

Booking a ride is pretty intuitive if you've used Google Maps or Apple maps for directions. If you're booking to and from the airport, the app will ask you where in the airport you'd like to be picked up or dropped off. You can schedule rides in advance or ask for as soon as possible. Once you enter the start and end locations, the app will quote different options, and you can pick the one you want. UberX is a normal 4 door car, XL is a larger crossover or SUV, and Black will get you a nicer car (like a Mercedes or Cadillac). Uber Share is a carpooling option that charges by the seat, and I wouldn't recommend that for an airport transfer, even if it looks cheaper.

They won't do a grocery stop. You can schedule multiple stops, but those are meant for quick drop-offs and pickups. You can have them drop you off at the store and one person watches the luggage while the other shops, or go right to Disney first and make a separate trip to the store.

Cost will be anywhere from $30 to $50, plus tip. You can rate your driver and add a tip in the app after the ride is over. I personally use Uber or Lyft every time I visit Disney World. Having my own ride on my schedule is worth the upcharge from Mears, especially when going from WDW to MCO.

Uber is easy to use, but like anything new, it would be best to first use it in a low-stress environment.

I suggest using it at home a couple of times to get a feel for it.

Some areas will have specific ride-share pickup areas. It can be stressful finding your Uber when there are multiple vehicles coming down the pickup area, so I would not make my first Uber effort at a busy airport.

Surge pricing can cause a variation in price for Uber and similar rideshares.

Check Lyft, too, they seem to be more popular in Orlando and cheaper. I'd also advise waiting about a week or two before your trip before you sign up. Both rideshares usually offer some decent discounts to new customers, the discounts are often valid for about a week.

Just be sure to cancel the free trial after the end of your visit. This is how corporations get ya! 😝

Unless you sign up for food delivery service through one of the rideshare services, there is no trial period, no monthly fees. You do have to enter a credit card number, but you aren't charged any subscription or membership fees for normal Uber/Lyft service. No free trial, it's free to register and you are charged when you use them for a ride.

That’s if you don’t get Uber One or those add ons…

I didn't add a credit card to my Uber account. I purchased Uber gift cards from Target, 5% off, and linked them to my account.
