If you bought an ipad, did you go with the 3-g one?

If you have one, are you happy with it?

If you bought the 3-g, can you use with just wifi and not buy the service?

Thanks.

The 3G version of the iPad hasn't been released yet and won't be out til May 7th. It does also have Wi-fi so you can connect either way.

Personally I'd wait on the 3g. It just seems pointless to me to have wifi only.

Ok, Thanks. I didn't realize it had not been released yet.

Why is it pointless? I have wifi on my laptop and no other means of connecting....

I am debating. I will not buy service with AT&T cause their service is horrible in my area.... so if I can't get GOOD service, I won't pay for it.
IF at some point some other carrier would be able to offer the service, I would consider using it and I guess that is my question... should I buy the 3g with the thought I MIGHT someday use it????:confused3

I ordered the 3g version last week, Apple said it will ship by April 30, so I can let you know then!

Yes......as far as I could see 3g is “pay as you go”

I have an iphone with 3g service. Can't see getting another device with 3g service.

the iPad is nothing more than a way to big of an iPod touch. I wouldnt get one even if its free.
Maybe an upgraded version if its better and faster.

Oh, I thought that before DH got me one. I actually considered it like a giant I-phone. Anyway, the apps are great and I'm loving it. We didn't opt for dealing with AT&T either, but I haven't had a problem. Whenever I've needed the wireless, I just ask what the password is and if they're giving it out where I am.

Awesome :) Glad you like it.

So with the iPad on the 3g network you have a service fee/contract? How much is that?

I am buying one for a work application and I didn't know to factor this in.

I have a Kindle which is on the 3g network and there are certain things (like sending files, etc) which has a charge associated with it, but otherwise there is no charge to buy/shop, etc.

There is no contract. It's a month-to-month thing. $14.99 gets you the first 250MB. $30 for unlimited. And you can change it during the month. So if you realize you are going to hit the 250MB, you can switch it to the $30 for just that month.

We have the 3G on order. We plan to primarily use just the Wi-Fi, but we wanted the ability to use the 3G if we were on vacation and didn't have access to Wi-Fi but were in a 3G area.

Friend on FB bought the iPad and returned it when she found out the 3G model was coming out.

That is me exactly. I primarily want to use my IPad when I am at home sitting on the couch.
If I need 3G service I can use my IPhone.

When I tried to buy my IPad at Best Buy they asked repeatedly if I wanted the 3G version. The sales person said they had gotten several returned as people had thought it was the 3G version.
Wi-Fi is fine w/ me and I have been w/ AT&T for 14+ years so I am happy with them but no point in paying the data package on my IPhone and my IPad.
