iPad prices announced!

It looks really awesome - I love gadgets! :lmao: I will, however, wait to see if the prices drops in the first few months like they did when the iPhone came out.

I think the price points are actually less than most of the guesstimates I've seen.

Personally I'm holding off for now, but I tend to be a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to rushing out and getting the latest and greatest tech gadgets. I'll be watching for reviews from the first folks who get their hands on them though. :thumbsup2

you are right! before the prices were announced people were sepculating it would cost anywhere from 600 to 1000. I want one but like you I will wait and see what the price does after a few monts. They better not decide and raise the price!popcorn::

if only att would let the 30$ i pay for my iphone on 3g cover this device too i'd be all over it.

I thought the price was good considering it is a game system, picture storer, book reader, internet capable device, video streaming device, and an ipod and if you compare it to the 16 gig touch at $300 it seems in par. I actually thought it would hit the market at a higher price.

I think waiting is the way to go also just to see how it goes. I do not forsee much of a price drop since this device is not a phone.

I do not care for the name they gave it, the iPad, I mean really.

I agree with everything you said, especially about the name

Ok, forgive me because I have just a regular old cell phone that you use for just phone calls, but can you use the internet on it like a regular computer for $30/mo?

I'm having trouble seeing where the iPad fits in... is it a really big iTouch or a scaled down laptop computer? Seems like a tweener to me - I think it has more value as a scaled down laptop.

I get that they are pushing it as an ebook reader, but I would prefer an E Ink display like a Kindle if that's the intended purpose.

Assuming you have WiFi access, you can hook up to the internet using WiFi without paying any additional charge. Such access will be included for free at public ATT hotspots.

For this additional $30 charge you can also use unlimited data on a wireless phone connection, or you can pay $15 for limited data. Thsi also you to surf the web while you are a passenger in car!

My boss has a wireless phone connection for his laptop and pays $50 per month, so this is actually a good price point. In addition , there is no contract for the service, so you may be able to buy the service for a month when you are travelling and not pay anything the next month when you are at home. Because it works off the same kind of SIM card as used in an iPhone, you may also just be able to swap out your iPhone service (for which you already pay $30 per month, but this will leave your phone disabled while you surf the web on your iPad). -- Suzanne

I want one too....but I will also have to wait until the price comes WAY down!!

Good point Suzanne...hope that will apply that would be awesome.

Also heard rumors that ATT may do some kind of incentive to purchase.

I think so except for flash applications, I know the iphone and the touch do not support that so I would expect that this doesn't either.

Hmmm, DH was going to get me the iPod Touch for my birthday in May, but I'm thinking maybe I'll wait and get the iPad instead... I've been wanting an e-book reader, and the no-contract option for 3G access is a nice plus for when we travel. I'm not one to rush out and get something as soon as it hits the market, though, so I'll give it at least until Christmas to get the bugs worked out and see what happens with the pricing.

Speaking of pricing I wonder if the release of the ipad will have any effect on the prices of notebooks and netbooks not to mention ipod touch.

I do not think I would drop $300 on an ipod touch now with the ipad in the mix, I would rather spend the extra $ on the ipad.

LOL,
Technology is getting cooler, smaller and more transportable. I'm never first with any technology so God only knows what will be available by the time I get around to getting a Ipad.

I have an iPhone and love it! I can't wait to get the iPad. I'm going to be all over it:). I'm going to wait and see if the price drops first.

To me it looks like the iPad is just an oversized iPod Touch (like PP stated).
It does everything my Touch does and it's like 4 times the size of it. I love gadgets but this does nothing for me - will have to get more info on it.
