Both my DS16 and DD6 have an iPod Touch. My DD6 says she wants an iPad Mini for Christmas. I really can't find anything that different about them. Does anyone have both and really use both? I was going to get the Target deal this week, if I really am buying one. I did ask DS16 and he said he did not want one as he thought they were the same and not that much different in size.

Thanks,

I have an iPhone and an iPad mini. My kids each have a Touch (4 & 8). They will use my iPad, but they don't anything on it differently than they do on their own devices. It is more about which device is closest to them and has full battery. :)

Personally I read and surf more on my iPad mini, but I don't think that would apply to a 6 year old.

My opinion would be one or the other but not both. The touch is going to be more portable for listening to music. The mini will be nicer for watching videos, although my kids watch videos without complaint on their touch.

That's what I was thinking, too. She uses my Kindle for things, too. Now to convince her she doesn't "need" one. Thanks for the input.

The only thing I feel is different between the ipod touch and mini is the screen size.

DD13 has the iPad Mini....and desperately wants an iPad Touch too, to replace the one she lost.

The Mini is great for home, on planes, etc. but it's not as portable. So when she wants to run out with just a small purse or even no purse at all, the Touch would be a lot more convenient.

She uses her mini for things like surfing the web and making/editing movies that you really can't do as easily on the Touch.

I personally have both the Nexus 4 phone, and the Nexus 7 tablet. Same sort of idea, I just drank the Google koolaid instead of the Apple koolaid ;) I use both, just in different situations. The phone is great for on-the-go, but it isn't good for viewing movies or doing more complex things like editing my budget spreadsheet. The tablet is great for that. And while it's easy to read emails on my phone, writing them is definitely easier on the tablet with a bigger keyboard. Both devices have their place with me - the phone is always with me, the tablet stays at home to be used there and also comes with me when travelling.

Well, when you say it that way, I kind of do the same thing with my iPhone and Kindle. And here I thought I had made a decision. :lmao:

So what is the target deal?

$40 gift card with purchase of iPad Mini (reg. $329.99) plus you can use your Red card for the extra 5% off. If you go through ebates you also get some back there.

There may be a better deal closer to Black Friday, but I thought this was pretty good. Of course, I was thinking I was buying two until DS16 said he doesn't want one, so now I don't really have to space them out.

My DS6 has an iPod touch, iPad mini and the iPad 1 (his hand me down when I got my new iPad 4 for XMas). He uses them all but the iPad mini gets the most love. He takes with him whenever we go out to play his games in the car. He also uses it to we can FaceTime when I go away for work. It's much easier for him to do his math and reading computer assignments (they are on the Internet) on the mini than it would be on the Touch. Love the Mini!

I have had an iPhone for years and couldn't understand the need for an iPad. In January, I broke down and got one. LOVE IT! My iPhone is great and portable, but the larger screen on the iPad is wonderful for some games (hidden pictures, crossword puzzles, etc) and it's what I use when I'm home almost exclusively.

I have an iphone5, iPod touch, and kindle touch and just got the iPad mini with the target deal. Love the iPad mini! Waaaay easier to play games and read things on the iPad mini. Still love my kindle for reading books because my eyes don't fatigue.

My kids love the mini. It gets the most use in our house. We have a Kindle Fire, blackberry play book, iPod touch, 2 iPad minis and a iPad 2 . Everyone has a toy, LOL
