Ipad and disney hotels

I am a new member of DVC and this will be our first trip (AKV) is it safe in the room? Do they have a safe?

I leave mine in the room. When I do carry mine around, I have a SleeveCase from WaterField Design. It was pricey, but extremely well made.

I used an engenius etr9330 wireless n router and it worked fine at the resort with my ipad 2. Some of these routers may require you to power down and then power up the disney router before you connect your wireless router. Generally set up your wireless router at home.

Just remember if you have any trouble making a connection Disney will not really help you. They do not guarantee it will work. Their tech people will talk to you but all they can do is ask you to power everything down and then up.

Or you could just buy one month of cellular service for $25.00 through AT&T...and have 3G

Ok two questions..been reading the threads about wireless and am interested in purchasing an ipad.. figure I can leave lap top hom
First, we live in the woods with no wifi and wondering about the 3 g and coverage and a device for that in the home
Second , if I had ipad and purchased the 3g plan, they have one with 2gb, does anyone know how long that last, how much data..I don't watch video etc except that download with a site..and I email and come on here. from what I can gather the video or pictures are the big hogger of data charges... I do go around and look at different sites and do spend hours on web a day
From what I gathered reading I need a wireless router to get interned down at Disney and the second choice is a 3g plan for the Ipad , is that built in or do I still need a router... as you can tell I am not tech literate Thanks for any help:goodvibes

If you have a 3G-capable iPad with an active data plan (and assuming you have coverage...) then you do not need any additional equipment.

Coverage can be spotty, depending on carrier (ATT vs. Verizon) and where exactly you are. For example, at VWL, I had trouble with Virgin Mobile (which uses Sprint's network) but no problem at all with ATT.

well, the 2Gb, I have used. No video etc...that can go very quick! I found out the hard way...:) if not used at all, you have the typical 30 days on each plan, if used. just for emails, you can get a week out of it, or surfing the boards for a little bit a day. You can also keep track with your cellular data on the ipad, I just bought the WiFi 3G and hope to just use the hot spots in the resort, but when in room. I may just opt for the 5GB plan for the 50 bucks, that way I do not have to worry. I have gone over more times then not!

~althou, one time I had the live feeds on from Big Brother and fell asleep, so with that said! haa haa

Thanks for the data info...that was helpful. so the 2gb won't go far, just get a router to connect in the room and use Disney internet like I do on laptop . That is what I started researching first...then read all the posts about ipad, I have just an itouch and love that sooooo figured the Ipad would be cool to get.
I was just curious about all this because I am clueless..

If you want to use a MiFi or a hotspot based on a phone or iPad, watch out for battery life. A couple of family members surfing can blast the battery on my iPhone 4 during a single wait at an airport, after which I'm scrambling for a plug and hoping I have time to recharge before someone calls me. When we stayed at BCV a few weeks ago we used the Engenius travel router plugged into a wall next to the room's ethernet port (this is one of several brands that work well). I had trouble with its inscrutable directions, but their phone support quickly and politely got everything working (at home before we left), after which it worked perfectly.

I assume you have "wired" internet connection since you are posting on these boards. Check to see if your router includes a wireless capability in addition to the Ethernet connection. If not, you can pick up an inexpensive wireless router to use at home and bring it with you when you travel. This works with us for our iPad, MacBook, Windows notebook, iPod Touch, and our iPhone to save data usage. If you are in a situation in which there is no wireless, or connection for the router, you may opt for the no-contract data plan which is month-by-month.

Thank you no that is problem not wired here in woods dial up so when at Disney it is great so I will get a router for ipad and use that instead the 3g seems to use alot so not a smart way to go Thanks for the useful info I will tell DH think that is the easier way to go with the router you don't have to phically attach the ipad right thank you

With a wireless router you would not need to attach the iPad. If you purchase a router new it should have all the necessary instructions. It was user friendly for us to connect.

Love taking my ipad instead of the heavier laptop. Ok, I just love my ipad. We have been using Airport Express (bought it refurbished) with no problems. Especially when I have my Apple Specialist along (DD).

Mine is a 3G, but that did not work well in Napa, and might also not work in some of the newer WDW resorts. The ones that are built since 2001 to the new hurricane codes. But it might work outside, on the balcony etc. My experience, anyway. We have the same problem with cel phone calls at BLT.

Thinking of a smaller, cheaper travel router, since we use the Airport Express at home for the living room, and it's a hassle to get to. Thanks for the suggestions here.
