I moved to Iowa in the late 80's. I was so embarassed to be coming here that I told everyone I would be moving to Illinois! Now, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Born and raised in Marshalltown, part of my family is still there! Just moved to Kansas last summer. Try explaining detassling to people not from "up north"! Holy cow the looks they get on their faces when you tell them there is male corn and female corn!!!!

Ewww, best of luck to you! We moved to Minnesota for 15 months, they really hate Iowans! I still don't get it and I never understood "Minnesota Nice"!! They weren't nice to me!


MrsPotts, we're trying to get my 14 year old a detasseling job this summer. He really wants to do it to save money for a car. We'll see if he wants to do it again next year! We all did it at least one summer!

Detassling, the perfect summer job! You make good cash fast over a couple of weeks and you get the rest of the summer free to hang out with your friends and drive your parents crazy!

I'm in SE Kansas, nothing down here! I'm here for the job, another 2-3 years of experience and I'm out of here!! Fortunately my sister lives by Lansing so I go up there alot! I go over to Wichita too, but it's not the same as Kansas City!

Hi, I'm in CB, grew up here too. My dh grew up in Omaha, and has been converted. Though technically, we live outside CB, between CB and Crescent, IA.

I'm not a native Iowan but I lived in Underwood (Southwest Iowa) from age 8 to 18.
