iOS 4 is available

Every time I try to download to update it freezes during the Back-up. Anyone else having this problem with the 3G? I've restarted my computer and phone to see if that would help. Nothing.

It took forever with my 3G. Just be patient and let it finish. I walked away and just check back from time to time.

I upgraded my 3g last night as well. It took right at 4 hours to finish, but was patient and let it do its thing and it finally finished. The waiting was well worth it. I've spent all morning reorganizing my home screen and organizing my apps into folders. Like someone else said, it's like getting a new phone. This will do until I get my new iPhone 4 delivered to my door next month. :thumbsup2

I don't think i could be without my phone for that long! :rotfl: maybe i'll try it tonight though.

how long did it take you? So it's not frozen just taking awhile? the little green backing up bar has not moved in a few min.

I downloaded the upgrade via iTunes just after it was release (1 PM EST) I did not have my phone til sometime before 5 PM. All I can say is just to be patient and expect the worse. Anything shorter will be a welcome suprise.

The green bar on mine didn't move for probably the first 45-50 minutes, I almost gave up.....then it started to move the slightest little bit.

I tried last night and after 1 1/2 hours the backup progress bar still hadn't moved. I will try again tonight :confused3

Don't get discouraged if the green progress bar appears to be frozen. It's not. It looked like that while I was upgrading last night.

It took almost 2 hours last night for the new software to load for me. Love, Love, LOVE the folders! And, the zoom on the camera is great too. I feel like I got a whole new phone! :woohoo:

Any word on WHY it's taking so long to update the 3G to OS 4.0? I don't remember any other updates being this long.

I downloaded it last night. Started it and left it working while I slept. It was all finished this morning.
I LOVE the folders. I had pretty much maxed out adding apps - if I wanted to add something, I had to remove something else to make room first. Since there are so many, I don't have them all categorized yet, but I like all the extra room on my screens:banana:

I think it might have to due with the backup. I am just speculating but there might have been a special backup done in order to make it ready to restore to iOS4.

I updated my 3GS tonight and it did take about 90 minutes in total. However, I had updated my version of iTunes the night before - which also took somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes.

I was around for 1.5 hours before I went to bed. Most of that time was on the Back up for my 3G.

The whole download, backup, install, restore process took about 2:15 hours for my two year old 3G last night. Haven't played much with it yet but did verify that I still have all my apps, music, pictures, etc.

Where you able to change the wallpaper where the apps were on your 3G or is that only for the 3Gs phone?

That is only supported on the 3GS and 4 due to performace issues. Apple did not feel that the 3G performed up to the level it should when the wallpapers were in use.

The icon animation with backgrounds didn't perform well enough. - Steve Jobs in an email reply

Hey,

I'm just copying up some work that I have on my iPhone, and then I'm planning to download the new OS after that. I can't wait! It sounds really good from what you've all been saying :thumbsup2

This "folders" thing especially appeals to me :)

I'm sure I'll be posting again later once I've downloaded and a bit confused. :confused3
