We have been invited to a friend's son's Eagle Scout ceremony. What type of a gift should we bring?

Both my DS' are Eagle Scouts and each had a Court of Honor! Both boys received mostly money ($20.00) in a card. An Eagle tie, an Eagle pen, an Eagle plaque. Go on the website, if you have time and look over all the Eagle items you can purchase. You can also go to your local Scout shop.

The following is from the BSA website:

Should parents, relatives, or guests at an Eagle court of honor give the new Eagle Scout gifts?

This is the most frequently asked question received at Eaglescout.org. The answer is: it's up to you.

You might inquire of other people in your area about what the customs are for gifts. I suspect customs vary around the country. Sometimes gifts are given and sometimes not. In my own area, usually the family and a few close friends might give the Eagle Scout a gift, but it depends on the family. When I have seen gifts given, they are typically something like you might give a friend as a birthday gift or graduation gift - nothing of great value, but thoughtful. A card would certainly be appropriate regardless of the gift.

Eagle-themed items are appropriate and usually appreciated as gift. For ideas, your local Scout shop has many Eagle items. You can see the catalog of everything that is available locally at www.scoutstuff.org and the Eagle specific items by searching for items with the word "Eagle". You can order Scouting merchandise online, but the online catalog doesn’t stock everything. There is probably a Scout shop associated with your local Boy Scout council.

I bought my Eagle Scout nephew a lapel pin and a eagle scout desk paper weight from the local Scout shop, along with a card and $$.

As a Scout leader and mom of an Eagle I have seen and given many gifts to Eagle Scouts. Money is always appreciated as well as gift certificates to favorite merchants. If you want to do something different but often neglected, take a picture of the new Eagle with his parents at the ceremony or reception afterwards and get it framed. We somehow missed that and regret it to this day!

I just went to a friends sons and I gave 100.00 check.

 Wow, that certainly was a very nice and generous gift.

To anyone reading this thread...Eagle's do love anything EAGLE related if at all possible. Remember now that they have (for some) been in Scouting since FIRST GRADE and allllll they hear is.."will you become an EAGLE?" And that is so much of the discussion as they get closer and closer to that most prestigous rank in Boy Scouting. So look on the website or go to the Scout shop in your area and look at all the awesome Eagle gifts they have available.:thumbsup2

Here's a nice relatively inexpensive fitting gift... Go to a coin shop and buy a 2007 "Silver Eagle" US $1 coin. It's a "Eagle" coin from the year the scout earned his! US Mint Link

Just dont go and tell them yuo got sick at the last minute :thumbsup2
