Invite to Member Homecoming

We just received an invite today too (March 18th), I was wondering if it's because we bought at SSR in August, 2003 and it wasn't recorded until December so we weren't quite "official" when the invites were first sent out.

Disney must just be inconsistent. I, too, purchased back in August, but did receive an invite a few months ago.

Since there are a few people here who want to make me the villian in all this I will just say a few things, add a few links and then walk away from this particular thread.

Yes I am very excited about Member Homecoming. We did the member cruise and it was fanttastic. I expect this to be much the same way. No it isn't free, yes it is a lot of money. My DH and I work very hard for our money too and how we enjoy it is up to us. I find paying large sums of money to spend a day walking around chasing a little white ball to be a rip-off but I wouldn't blast someone who wants to do it if that is what brings them joy.

No I do not walk around with Disney colored glasses. I do try to always see the glass as half-full. If that is wrong so be it.

Now for the links and why my dander gets up when certain posters try to take a positive thing like Member Homecoming and turn it ugly.

BOYCOTT the DVC Member Cruise

I withdraw my BOYCOTT vote!

So who's going on the DVC Cruise in 2/2003

Don't know what to do!!!! Member Cruise!!!!!

Ok if you read any of these you will see that a few of the same people being negative about Member Homecoming were also very negative about the Member Cruise. I didn't appreciate being called a "Sucker" because I was going on it. Just as I don't appreciate being told I'm being "ripped-off" for going to Member Homecoming. What made it worse though was that I was told on the cruise by some DIS members I talked to that they were afraid to even post about the cruise because of the negative feedback the rest of us were getting. How sad is that.

Bottom line we did the cruise and had a wonderful time. Yes it was special. Disney, DCL, and DVC went out of their way to make it special. Did it cost us a little more (points). Yes. Was it worth it. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bottom line we are doing Member Homecoming. Will it be special - I expect it will. Is it costiing us money? Yes. Will it be worth it? My heart tells me yes.

As I said in an earlier post on this thread - no matter what I say the nay-sayers won't change their minds and I won't change mine. I just thought it was time that some people knew a little history.

I'm really glad that these nay-sayers love their DVC - no one every said they didn't. I just wish they would let us love it and enjoy it the way we want to.

Member Homecoming requires extra money. We're not required to pay the fee unless we choose to go. We were never promised freebies when we joined. So, the way I look at it we have the opportunity to do it if we want. To each his/her own. Simple as that.

I concur with much of what gmboy95 said.
While Disney doesn't "owe" us anything over and above the norm it is good business sense to make your most loyal customers feel like they are getting special treatment once in a while.
Why do you think retailers have "loss leader" items and put things on sale??? They want to get you into THEIR store because they know once you are there you will spend $$$ on non-discounted items as well.
It wouldn't hurt Disney put things out there for a decent price every so often...not always at the maximum price they feel they can get away with.

Just my 5 cents worth (because 2 cents won't get you anywhere at WDW) ;)

I started this thread. I must say I will wait to see what people have to say about what really happened at the HC. I expect those who paid will not be that objective but nevertheless most of us that frequent this board can sort though the reports and form some opinion about all this. It was about 2 or 3 years after I bought into DVC that I noticed what I believe are major changes in the whole of WDW. As far as OKW goes I am still happy with my purchase at OKW but fear that I have seen the best of OKW and WDW. I hope that the HC is great for those of you that attend but for me I have become too much of a "doubting Thomas" to trust what WDW has to say about anything. Have fun. I mean that.:D

A complete tour down memory lane would reveal many trenches containing the bodies of "negative posters" severely wounded or otherwise emotionaly scared from battle with the "Mickey Militia".

Others of us just keep marching.
