It depends on what your definition of "investment purposes" is. If you are thinking about buying a property and renting it a week at a time to vacationers, you're playing a very risky and expensive game. There will be many more weeks each year when it isn't rented than when it is. You have to be prepared to cover those shortfalls in cashflow. Not to mention all those different people who will be in there, some of whom will raise havoc with your furnishings.
If you are thinking more along the lines of buying a property like a 2-3 bedroom 2 bath house a little further away and renting it out year round to one tenant on a lease then that's more doable and will usually be more profitable for you in the long run.
Remember this rule: if the economy takes a downturn for any reason and tourism suffers as a result, the vacationer rentals will dry up. But the people who rent a house all year long will still need a place to live.
