invention/product concept...what to do?

OK, over the weekend my DH and I came up with a cool thing. We are interested in trying to develop it for market or at least put the concept out there to a company. Does anyone have any idea how this is done or what to do? I've done some basic searches to try to get info, but didn't come across anything I thought would help.
Any inventors out there?????
