We had hoped to do a wedding on the Disney Cruise Lines, but it will not work out for family. Soooo...we want to do the next best thing and get married at Disney. My sis is having the big Disney Wedding, so unfortunately that is out for us...which is why we were going to try for DCL.

ANYWAYS...the next best thing is getting married on the beach/poly! ANy information regarding this good or bad? Anyone have first hand experience/pictures? I do plan on doing a lot of research on this...if all goes well we hope to get married March/April 2007!!

Thanks in advanced for any info!
Oh, and of course we will honeymoon at Disney for the week after the wedding!!

I think the Poly is a wonderful choice :thumbsup2

There are plenty of brides on here who have gotten married at Sunset Pointe. After April 1, I will be one of those same brides :goodvibes Df and I chose Sunset Pointe because it looked so beautiful and it's the only site (besides the wedding pavillion) to have the castle in the background.

After our ceremony we are taking the limo over to the Yachtsman Steakhouse. After dinner we are planning a surprise Wishes cruise! We leave next month and can't wait! If you have any other questions, let me know!

We had intitially wanted a Poly ceremony too - the only negative about the Sunset Pointe location is that they limit you to 10 guests (yes, bride & groom are included). That just wasn't going to be possible for us so we switched to the Wedding Pavilion. I've read nothing but good things about Sunset Point though and everyone's pictures are gorgeous.

I was married at the Poly on Dec. 6th the site is called Sunset Pointe. It is an intimate location so no more then 18 guests. It has a view of the castle in the background, and you stand under palm trees, while you say your vows. It is actually next to the beach you are not on sand, it has a beach look/feel just without the sand.

Here are a few pics of my wedding and the site:

I got married at Sunset Pointe and it was GORGEOUS!! As someone else said it is an intimate location and they do restrict the number of guests. We had about 12 people there including us.

Thanks for the replies!!! And thanks melmel for the pictures! It looks great!!! Looks like you had a beautiful wedding!!!

We will have about 12-16 people there, including us. I hope that they allow more than 10!! I could cut it down to 11 if need be but would rather include all 16 people!

I can't wait to start planning this!! We're going to watch the Disney WEdding planning DVD this weekend and really discuss what we want! I read some people do the dessert parties at EPCOT for their "reception" and I thought that was a great idea! Or a wishes cruise would be nice also!!

I'm also very interested in the cake "reception" and where we would have it if we got married at Sunset Pointe.

Laura, I'll be waiting anxiously to hear back on everything about your wedding!! ;) Be prepared for tons of questions! LOL

So many great ideas out there!! :thumbsup2

Hi,

Please don't set your heart on Sunset Point. I did and was told absolutely no more than 10 (inc bride & Groom). Pleaded but they didn't budge. That said I have heard that some have previously had more than 10. Fingers crossed for you.

They said the same thing to me too. I ended up booking Seabreeze pointe but now I'm changing my mind and switching to the WP b/c I still want the castle in the background and the WP and sunset pointe are the only places you can see it. (besides it would probably be better so that my Grandpa doesn't have to walk all the way across board walk to get to the gazebo)

I've really warmed to WP now and can't imagine it anywhere else. I love the pictures people have done at Picture point. Only hope we get some just as good.

I'd love to do the WP but my lil sis is getting married there in December (having a custom wedding) and I dont want to do the same thing.Hmmm...well I kinda have my heart set on sunset pointe already! LOL I guess we'll have to see what we can do to get it down to 10! I'll also see what we can do about add a few more once we have been in contact with Disney.

Thanks again for all the info!

Oh, does anyone know what happens if it rains?? Where would the ceremony be held? I'm a bit worried since it will be April or May!!

I have heard that if it rains, they use the King Kamehameha suite (if it is available) at the Poly. However, that is usually up to Disney. I think I've also heard of one bride who got the WP as a rain site! That was some pixiedust:

I don't think anyone could give you a definite answer on the rain location...that would have to be determined "at the last minute" so the options could be very limited or wide open!

No matter what, don't worry too much...Disney will make it magical!! And it's good luck if it rains on your wedding day!! :umbrella:

We were VERY worried about a rain site, especally when we woke up to rain that morning. We spoke to Jennifer several times that day with updates. She said very rarely a bride will be SNUCK into the WP, but it's litterally sneaking them in as it's a 'turf' thing, and they are really really really not supposed to do it. The rain site for Sunset Pointe is an old resturant that has a "lovely polynesian theme", according to Jennifer. Thankfully, the rain stopped so I never had to find out what the location looked like.

I too booked the Sunset Pointe site. It was my first choice because I just thought that it was so beautiful. However, end the end, it rained and it poured and we were moved to the WP! :cool1:

Karen was our em, but her assistant called me the day of to say that she would not be able to attend and that Maxine would take her place. Boy, was I thrilled because I had heard so many wonderful things about her. I believe that Maxine is a custom bride event manager and this may be the reason we were moved to the WP. All in all, it was the most magical day ever!

I knew I'd heard of a bride that got "bumped" from Sunset Point to the WP!!!

Lots of extra pixiedust: and Disney magic was there on your day!!!

Congratulations!

You are one lucky duck! Send some of that pixiedust: my way

Actually Maxine is an intimate even manager (mine in fact!) But I think she does have seniority of some kind.

Wow MEME, that's great that you had such a nice location change! I guess it really is good luck to have rain on your wedding day. ;)

I think it would be very very cool to have a wedding at the place where the Lua takes place. Then after the wedding have the Lua as your reception. What do you guys think? Also can you do Sunset Point in the evening, say during the fireworks, or during the parade on the water? Very cool if you could. Very romantic with the tiki torches.

I guess it all depends on whether you are having an intimate wedding or a custom wedding...and how much you are willing to spend ;)

For an initmate wedding, you have five locations to choose from (the luau place, I think you are talking of O'hana's, is not one of them), and specific times for your ceremony at those locations. None of those times are late enough to have a ceremony during the fireworks.

I agree it would be very cool to have a ceremony with the tiki torches!! :thumbsup2

Now, if you are having a custom wedding, and willing to spend extra $$$ you MIGHT be able to have a ceremony at a later time, but there would be other restrictions (like Sunset Point only allows 10 guests including the bride and groom).

I was actually talking about the actual Lua. Right up on stage would be awesome, by candle light, tiki torch and that music they play. OMG. The fire walker guy and the dancers afterward. Maybe even a great place for a reception. Instead of a limo you could have the men carry you on some plank decorated with flowers, big strong guys with loan cloths kinda like Cleopatra thing. OMG my imagination runs wild. Sorry girls just dreaming, but dreams CAN come true, RIGHT? :rotfl2:
