Intimate Wedding - Hotel Reservations Question

I need to call my wedding coordinator by Friday with my reservation #. We would like to rent points for a DVC resort, but don't have the points available to us yet. Can we book a reservation anywhere just to hold our wedding date, then change the reservation once we get the points?? Sorry if this is so confusing, but I want to call the coordinator tonight or tomorrow with the ressie #, so I was thinking about just booking a 4 night stay at the Pop or something like that, then cancelling it once I have the DVC points. Anyone know if the ressie can be changed once you give the confirmation # to the coordinator??

I beleive that renting points from a DVC member would not count towards your 4 night min. stay at disney. The only way that staying at a DVC resort would count towards your 4 min. would be if you booked it through Disney reservations.

Someone correct me if I am wrong....but this was my understanding.

Edited to add that you may want to contact your coordinator before you rent points from a DVC member to make sure that it will count.

I'm not 100% sure but I am pretty sure that you can book a stay at the POP now and then use the DVC points after you rent them. I would just double check with your coordinator first though.

I know that DVC points do count for the minimum. We are using my parents points for our stay. Maybe if you rent them they don't count because they are not in your name, but the points we are using are not in our name either, they are my parents, so I don't think that renting DVC points will be a problem either. (I hope that made sense)

My coordinator said it is okay to use DVC points. I just wasn't sure if I can change the reservation after I give her the confirmation number. Hmmm, maybe I'll have to give her a call tomorrow morning.

Well thank you for correcting me I would rather be able to rent DVC points and use them towards our min. so that is great to know!! I must have misunderstood or something somewhere.

Yeah - if you go to the DVC boards, there are posts there where you can rent or transfer DVC points. It ends up being extremely affordable compared to paying directly through Disney - especially since the villas tend to be very expensive (you can get a 1 bedroom condo villa for about 1/3 to 1/2 of the price if you rent with DVC)

There may be a difference between what is accepted in terms of reservations for Intimate and Custom. DVC may not count toward Custom minimums. But I really don't know about Customs.

We are having an Intimate and we first reserved POP and used the reservation number to book our wedding with DFTW. We then took our time, rented DVC points and swapped out our POP reservation number with the reservation number for the DVC rental. So no problems with your plans!

I originally booked our hotel through disney and that's the reservation # I gave Karen, our WP. Recently we decided to book through a travel agent because it was easier to coordinate the flights, rooms, passes, rental car, honeymoon cruise, etc so I sent Karen an email explaining the situation, and gave the booking # from the agent before I cancelled my first reservation. She replied that she was happy we found a better deal and thanked me for letting her know. It was no problem at all to switch.
