Interval International Questions with DVC

Since DVC includes membership with Interval International, I would assume that you can somehow trade your DVC accomodations for pretty much any II resort. Is this correct? So if this is the case, has anyone exchanged for a week at a resort that is not listed in the DVC member guidebook but is in the II guide of over 7500 resorts around the world? Also, since DVC is a member of II, how do we go about getting one of those II books for our own use?

This may be a good question for someone who owns both DVC and another timeshare where both are II members.

Also, I am thinking of going to Hawaii and would like to exchange DVC accomodations but don't wish to do it through the Concierge Collection. It seems that you may be able to stay in the same locations that have both weekly stay requirements and Concierge Collection options and the weekly stays may use less points than 7 nights with the Concierge Collection. Has someone found this to be the case as well?

Here goes. First, you can only trade for the II resorts that DVC deems appropriate, some 300 or so of the around 2000 II resorts (not 7500). You cannot trade for those not on the list. There may be an occasional resort added to the list but not in the DVC book. There also may be an occaional resort that is dropped from the DVC list.

You cannot get an II book through DVC. It did happen ONCE recently for a member of this Board and I'm still scratching my head on that one. You might find someone that has an extra or older book and would be willing to share. I keep all of mine so I can compare changes. You'll also see them for sale on ebay and yahoo from time to time.

As for going to HI, the exchanges will be less points than the CC. A CC type luxury hotel is different and more expensive. The trouble with exchanges is you must wait until something "matches" with II before knowing your set. There are other alternatives like independent exchange companies and direct exchanges.
