I have been reading the board for the past week, and see a lot of helpful info for saying at the disney resorts, but one of the reasons i decided to get into dvc was that if I wanted to, I could occasionally use points at Atlantis, or the caribean. Can anyone tell me what there experience has been with going outside the resorts? Such as quality of the resorts, or ease of reservation, etc???

We haven't had any problems at all. Granted we have never tried booking into a location at a peak time like Brekenridge in March. We have done 2 summer trade outs to Colorado - the first was very nice and the second is this July. My in-laws own II and we went with them to Cancun this winter. Again the accomodations were very nice.

I'm glad to hear positive feedback about the II trade out. I'm thinking about trading out for a week in Europe in a year or so, but I find the whole process mystifying!

II is an exchange company. They can't give you something that they don't have....

if the owner of the timeshare you want doesn't exchange it - then go another route. do a direct exchange? or rent your points and then go rent what you want.

lots of the good weeks are rented not exchanged.... So summer or any holiday in Europe don't count of it... non-holidays times you might be able to get one. (but remember their holidays and US ones are different)

now the concierge collection is different. these are hotels that have a relationship with DVC.... DVC can guaranteed these.

one day when I get braver I am going to Egypt....

Exchanging successfully takes planning in advance and doing your homework. NO ONE SHOULD EXCHANGE UNLESS THEY TRULY UNDERSTAND THE SYSTEM. It is not an open system and you never know what will happen or when.
