Have you been on a transatlantic cruise lately? I need to know if you bought a WiFi package, and if you had consistent connection during the cruise. Wife is taking some college courses, and she has to work on some of these classes during our cruise in September. Thanks, jonathan

Shippernet has improved, but it will never be as fast or consistent as a land-based service. Streaming is really not recommended.

There was one thing I REALLY liked on a recent RCCL Oasis of the Seas cruise, their Voom internet service. It was unlimited and it was fast enough to stream videos from Netflix, Amazon and my DIRECTV DVR at home. Really nice not having to logoff the connection all the time.

It works at times but may be wonky at times. It just depends on the moment.

Do you remember what they charged for the VOOM service?

It was one of those it depends. They price their packages if you want just 'regular' internet so you can do browsing, e-mail, Facebook etc or if you want faster speeds to allow for streaming. Then within those options they allow for one or more concurrent users. I had the 1 user streaming option and signed up during one of their many precruise sailings and I don't remember the exact amount but it was right around $100.

We were n the EBTA. I can't tell if it will be as good as you need. For our purposes, mostly emai it was fine.

I am a retired college prof, if someone let me know what was happening, like student being at the mercy of ship Internet, I would take that into consideration if need be. Let your instructor know.
