We are considering bringing along our laptop this trip. Is it free for DVC owners?

Thanks & Merry Christmas

Wired Internet service is complimentary for DVC members staying on points at the DVC resorts.

in fact, when we were just @ BLT a few weeks ago it even states that on the sign in page that pops up daily. Back in Oct. (@ VWL) it did NOT say it was free for Members; DW thinks their support # got too many calls questioning it... :3dglasses

We used it last week at BWV with no problems. I brought my router from home and it hooked right up so that my friend & I could be on at the same time wireless.

What kind of router do you have? It would be nice to have one for traveling.

We have 7pp staying in a 2BR most of the time - it's hard when the only internet connection is in the Master BR (BLT) or other inconvenient location, and it always seems to be for just one person.

We'll have at least two laptops - both are wireless ready.

TIA! :goodvibes

You could just bring your own wireless router from home but we purchsed a D-Link Pocket Router which costs something like $50 and is the size as the name suggests.

I have a Linksys. I just disconnected it at home and packed it. What was nice is my laptop was already setup for it so it connected right away with no setup. My friend turned on hers, found my signal, I gave her the password and she connected with no problem.

Thanks! I just looked this up - definitely a possibility.

It would be nice to bring mine from home - but when I'm on vacation Roomie would have a hard time getting on the internet! ;)

It would also be nice to have my computer already set up for it - I haven't set up a wireless router since 2006!

I was wondering how to go wireless at DVC resort...
Is the router automatic to set up on computer or do you need codes.
I was just wondering.
I do not like being tethered to the wall.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can chime in, but if I remember correctly, you set up your router initially when you buy it, and then your computer will recognize it from then on.

Another concern I have - will the wireless signal go through the walls? If we plug in the router in the Master BR, will it even go through all the metal and concrete, like at BLT?

My DPs took a tour of BLT a couple weeks ago and asked about wireless - the answer was that the signal had a hard time traveling around the building because of the materials used in construction.

It would be the same as setting up a router at home. You should setup a secure signal with a password so that others could not get into it.

Another thought - we're considering bringing a really long cord to connect the laptop to the internet wall connection - like 50 ft so it can make it from the Master BR into the Living Room.

I'm just afraid of tripping over the cord! :rolleyes1

In one bedroom and larger units there should be a wired connection outlet in the living room and the master bedroom. I'll be traveling soon with a laptop for the first time, and I plan to just bring my home router, since no one will be here to use it while were gone anyway.
