I called fort wilderness to reserve a internet kit for the week we are there and the CM acted like she had no idea what i was talking about.:confused3 She transfered me to the main reservation people and they also seemed confused.
They said they couldn't do it there but would put a request down on my reservation. Was i asking the wrong thing?? My DH needs to do some work on his laptop when we are there. any help would be great.
Also do we need to bring any extra cables, how long?, How does the internet kit actually work?
Thanks in advance to any help!:)

From what I understand, no reservations - first come first served. But, with that said I have never heard complaints that they ran out of the kits...

as a castmember I am sorry for the inconvenience, you should be able to just get one when you check in, they have plenty, from what I know they are just a modem and cables. but if for some reason you can't get one you can got the store and use the internet and many campers have internet set up wirelessly you can "borrow". :thumbsup2

I just borrowed an internet kit from the front desk last week. Nothing much has changed since the information was posted on this thread: High Speed internet at the Fort One big difference is that you can now use the internet kit at any campsite, as all sites now have cable.

As far as extra cable, I don't think you will need any. You should plan on bringing about 25' of cable to connect your TV to the cable outlet. The cable splitter in the internet kit can be connected to that, and the internet kit has an additional cable that is about 25' long (which actually is a lot longer than necessary).

Unfortunately, the training of employees at the Fort (and all over WDW for that matter) has really declined. A lot. Also, sometimes when you call the front desk, you are not speaking to a person at the front desk at all; you might be speaking to someone at a call center who has never stepped foot on Fort Wilderness property.

Oh, I should also add that I tried to find the elusive free wireless signals that people sometimes mention on this Board, and did not find one anywhere.

thanks so much, it clears up alot! I hope we can figure it all out.
Also great trip reports, keep them coming!!:)

Maybe they're keeping more of these on hand now. On my June 2007 trip there was not one available when I checked in. I checked the next day and was able to get one.

I have a feeling that people get lucky and are running off someone else's unsecured WiFi connection without even realizing it.

When we stayed in 300 in Dec., no less than 3-4 networks showed up on any given day. Most were locked, but not all of them. I run off my Verizon wireless card, but with your neighbors so close, would be really easy to pick up someone else's network. Heck, I can pickup 2 of my neighbor's networks here at home, and they're not all that close.
