Yea, I have everything backed up onto my external hard drive. If I bring it to school, I don't have to pay anything, I might just need to wait on a really long line. This is seriously really aggravating me. I wish it would just work

I have Google Chrome as my default browser, but some websites that I need only work on IE. That add on for firefox only makes the webpage look like it would on IE, but doesn't make it compatible with the browser. At least, that's the way it seems to be for me.

You have something Google, after I told you in two posts how Google caused me problems with my IE and to disable anything Google? Try uninstalling your Google Chrome. Do a Windows Update and see if that fixes your problem. Then reload Google Chrome and see if you have problems again or not.

I do have the Google toolbar & spellcheck installed. So some things work alright. But, I'm very careful now about not having anything else Goggle on my PC. The Google email notifier crashed my whole system and I could barely getting it to work in Safe Mode, to reformat my PC. Two weeks ago, I had to uninstall the Google Updater as it was messing with my system. If you have Google as your browser, you probably have the Google Updater too.

Google has the best search engine, great stocks, but working WITH IE, not go good.

I am not trying to be smart, but I really am just curious - have you tried the add on? Because I can tell you from my experience that when I use this add on (and it doesn't run all of the time, you have to right click and click on "View Page in IE Tab") that I am able to use pages that have previously told me that they are not compatible with Firefox and that I must use IE for it to work properly.

But you have to do what you feel comfortable with. Good luck with solving your problem. I know how frustrating it is to have computer glitches.

I second this suggestion. You'll find the icon in the lower right hand corner of the Firefox browser. Right click it & view in IEtab when needed. Can't hurt to try it.

And I'm funny. I don't do IE add-ons at all, but I do several Firefox add-ons.

For some reason, I was thinking you meant the google toolbar, which would be on IE. I didn't know that a separate Google program could interact with IE. I disabled all the Google stuff that was being used with IE, but that just shows how computer illiterate I am. I guess I didn't think that one program would interact with the other. My ex used to get mad at me for computer stuff, he was a computer programmer, and whenever I had computer issues, he would have to spell it out step by step to tell me how to fix it. So yea, I might try uninstalling Chrome, but I gotta admit, I do really like the browser.

Yea, I installed the add on and tried it, and it didn't work. Maybe it didn't install correctly? I did exactly what you stated, to view page in IE tab, and it still didn't work.

Well, that's your problem right there. He probably jinxed you when he left. Now, if you had mentioned that in the first post, the reason you're having a problem would have been found out right away.

You can always re-install Google Chrome once you see if it is the problem or not. Make sure you have a copy of the program downloaded before you uninstall it, or a way to get back online, if it can only be installed from Google's web site. You wouldn't want to still have problems with IE and no way to get back online.

LOL, you're probably right, he probably did some voodoo mind tricks on my laptop before he broke up with me. I have firefox installed on my computer as well, and so if I uninstall Chrome, and it wasn't the problem, I can always go back online with Firefox. I just don't want to believe that it could be Chrome that's the problem. I really love the browser, it's so much faster, and I can search from the address bar, it's great. Oh well, I'll try it tonight, see what happens.

Sorry to hear that it did not work for you. I sure hope that you get things figured out. I know that when my PC is not working right it definitely drives me crazy!

I did try that as well. The Internet Download Manager worked for the first download, but then it crashed on subsequent downloads. And it crashes on certain websites that only support IE as well.

I might try re-installing the add on for Firefox. Knowing me, I probably did something wrong and it didn't install properly.

That's a bit more high tech than I know how to do. I'm thinking about bringing my laptop into tech support at school on Friday, maybe they can figure it out. I mean, it's not like I'm trying to access an illigitament (sp?) websites, my school email and a question bank from the school's library website. So annoying.

Not really. If you have a cd copy of windows xp or vista just put it into your d drive and start it. It will ask if you want to repair or install. just select repair and sit back.

Even knowing that the “Guru” got the boot, you can handle yourself around pretty good.

And you do own an external hard drive & are using it...
If you bring it to school, they’ll take a look and if they don’t know, they’ll reinstall it from scratch. Unless you’ll run into an ambitious guy or girl that would like to learn something “new”.

Regardless what you do, I’d back up everything without using any compression (not using any backup software), this way you can bring back any single file by it self just by copying it back. You may too much & end up in the same hole...

Then, I’d just reinstall Vista, I’m sure you can do it, maybe just don’t want to mess with it, it’s a long process.

But… it may not work after all.

I’d try first:

You did allow pop-ups from the download site. Didn’t you?

Are you using Wireless Router? They come with Firewall that blocks access thru certain ports that may be legit, yet used by hackers. Can you try bypassing the router by plugging into the modem with LAN cable?

Uninstall AVG and replace it with Avast.

Are you using IE8??? Go back to IE7.

If those don’t work, I’d reinstall with XP…

Vista should have NEVER be released. Period. Did you know that if you buy a PC or Laptop with Win Vista, you’ll get a Free upgrade when the new Win OS is released? Why is that so?

I haven’t use AGV, can’t comment. They both are fairly good. I like Avast for not draining system memory like others do .

The reason I recommended to change the AV wasn’t because AVG is bad or something, it could be corrupted. Today AV does much more then just scan for viruses.

I just helped friend of mine with her laptop running Vista, she couldn’t connect to the internet at all. Turned out her Norton AV was corrupted. It was so bad, uninstall didn’t clear it all. I had to get a special cleaner tool from Noton's supprt site to remove it all. Once I did that, the Wireless Window Connection window light up instantly.

And I know Avast works well with Vista.
