Internet Connections at FW?

Ok. I admit it. I'm a total computer dope! How can I connect to the net while at FW? We've got a laptop with a wireless card for it. What else do we need to do and how is it done? Thanks!!!

Last time I checked there was no wireless network available at FW. I did pickup a signal for one down by the settlement that was weak, from WL. BUT, a limited number of cable modems are available from the front desk. So you have to have a preferred site with cable, and I think the modem cost was about $10 daily.

Ok call me crazy but why would you want to bring your laptop on holidays with you? the net and work and computers are the last thing I think about when I go on holidays.

Well we'll be using internet, because we have a family owned business that we run. And unfortunately, it's not big enough to hire other people, so we have to take care of the business every day, even on vacation. So we'll be using the internet to check emails and business stuff every day

Hmm not even my own business would be reason enough to do work on holidays I guess that is why my wife won't let me open up my own company LOL.

I some times run back home to do a job while we are on vacation. Nice to live close enough to do it, or I wouldn't get to go much Gotta do what you gotta do!!!!!!!

As others mentioned, wireless wasn't available at Ft. Wilderness last we were there (March). If you go the cable modem on a preferred site or a cabin, you'll just have to have an ethernet cable to connect between the modem and the ethernet port on your laptop. They might supply one, but a piece or two is always worth having with your laptop anyway.

Note that one of the small consumer router/firewalls work just fine between your pc and the modem if you want the additional protection. At the very least, make sure you have a software firewall and anti-virus installed. And always be aware that anything communicated over an unencrypted connection, wired or wireless, has the potential to be sniffed.

Clients would quit doing business with you if you told them you were on vacation for 7 weeks and they'd have to wait until you got back...
So I guess you have to weigh the consequences...vacation with no interruptions and a destroyed business, or spend a few minutes each day, probably less than 20, while on vacation doing business, and have it still building by the time you get back

Ya my holiday time is far to important to me for that LOL. I would let everyone know that I was going on holidays for 2 weeks and when I was going so if they needed something order it for shipment before I go away because after I leave there is no getting ahold of me all cell phones and e mail everything is turned off.
