Loved the scene in the movie the Proposal where she has to put dimes in the internet cafe and she gets dial-up!

It does still exist! LOL
We had it until about 5 months ago. Does that count? ;)

I've got DSL, thank goodness. But there are still parts of Nova Scotia where there is no broadband access.

My mother still has dial up. The majority of the time, she just calls me and has me do all of her online stuff for her.

We still have dial-up, but only because where we live, we have no high speed option other than satellite. :( Satellite internet is too expensive and too unreliable.

We've had wireless internet for a few years now and love it.

But at our property up north our nearest neighbor still has dial-up service.

We have DSL, but the IL's live out in the sticks, and they have dial-up. There isn't any other choice for them where they live. They tried some sort of satellite internet, but it wouldn't work either.

I can't even imagine using dial up again! I'm so impatient I'd go insane!

My in-laws in rural West VA have dial up and pay $25 a month got it. They can get cable modem, but they are stuck on the Dish Network contacrt that gets renewed every year. FIL can't be troubled with such things, so it's up to MIL, who's a tax return checker for local tax prep agencies. The contract comes up during the height of tax season and she says she doesn't have the time and high-speed isn't important anyway. All she does is check stock prices and email. Even if they did get it, I wonder if my FIL would actually use it or if my MIL would expand her usage.

My parents still had dial up until last year. I could not stand to even check my email while we were there. Ugh.

I had dial up up until a few years ago. I had to convince my mom to get rid of it and spend the extra money and get decent internet. The fact that every time we would be on the internet, it'd tie up the phone lines was just not going to work out for us. I couldn't live with Dial Up anymore. I'm too spoiled on DSL.

I can hear those dial up sounds now....the static....the rings....the insanity that followed....:rotfl:

I have an "emergency" dial up program and a modem on my travel laptop, but I have never had to use them.

My dad has dial-up and as long as its offered as the cheapest option he will always have it. He loves coming here, we have FiOS.

I'm surprised at that. DH and I have Dish Network for TV and our internet through the cable company.

For the internet, Long Islanders have the following available:

*Cablevision (which has THE WORST customer service )
*DSL through Verizon (If you are within the radius it covers. Cablevision has been preventing Verizon from making DSL available in our area )
*Sattelite (which I'm not sure if that is available; could be but I don't know.)

At our previous address, DH and I had DSL and liked it. Once we moved, we had no choice but to get it through Cablevision. If we had a choice (which we don't unfortunately), we would be back with DSL and away from Cablevision!
