internet access at the Fort?

Ok, so I'm addicted to my email. Is there wireless access anywhere at the Fort (preferably free access )? Thanks!

Yes, there is wireless access at the Outpost and Pioneer Hall. I don't think it is free, it is probably $9.95/day just like their wired access. If you're in a preferred loop you can check out an internet kit to give you broadband access for $9.95/day.

It's this thing we have from Cingular (but I think all phone companies have them) It's a card that you just pop in your computer and it give you internt access anywhere you are as long as you have cell phone reception. It runs off cell phone towers. It has a monthly fee like cell phones. We got one because I am taking online summer courses at my college but we are on a summer-long trip around the country. SO I have been able to take my classes all around the country except at Yellowstone, that is the only place it did not work

Thanks for the information, I do appreciate it! I had never heard of one of these before. I know this is probably a stupid question, but does this card work while in a moving vehicle? I did some research on it last night and it said about how you get internet access anywhere there are cell phone towers, but it didn't say about in a car, which would be cool if it works! LOL (DH and I travel A LOT!)

I have a Verizon card through work, and was checking email one day, while hubby was driving.

Verizon, Cingular, and Sprint seem to have the best services. T-Mobile's services work on a series of "Hot-Spots" and doesn't have the coverage that the above services have.

Thank you so much for the input! We have Verizon Wireless (I am assuming you use the same company as your cell phone?) and they charge $59.99 a month. A little steep for us, but will be well worth it in the end since so much of DH's business is done online while traveling. Thanks again for all your help, I do appreciate it!!

Actually, for our personal cell phone service, we have T-Mobile.

At work, they use Verizon for work cell phones. So far, they haven't asked me to get a Blackberry, and I'm hoping they don't. I really don't want that thing strapped to me 24/7. I just make sure I log on to email twice a day while on vacation, and they've been happy with that.

I am working on my PhD so I need acess too.. There is a library that is about 20 minutes away with free wifi if you don't mind traveling.

(Disney is the only place I would use it) What I did was purchase from verizon an office kit. It tethers my cell phone to my computer for on air time. Works perfectly. So in this particular instance you are using the minutes in your phone plan toward your internet use? The kit itself is $39.00...and if you use your weekend and evenings(which are usually free for Verizon)..then you aren't being charged for using the internet?...Just checking because someone else had told me that they couldn't use the minutes allotted for phone toward internet use?...So, I just wanted to verify that I was understanding you correctly. If it is as you indicate..seems like that's a pretty good deal.

I have a Sprint wireless card that I use at Disney and on the road. It is very convenient and it passes the time when I am not on the driving shift. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, as my service is a contracted one and costs around $60 a month. I tend to use it for school (we are blocked out of several sites at work because the kids won't behave themselves on the internet) and when we are away from home. I run ebay auctions, so I need to check them daily. I would say if you can stomach the $10 a day for the internet, then do it. I would only recommend my service if you are in a daily need of internet outside your home.

With my set up I only use the air time on my cell phone. No other charges. Since the minutes could rack up quickly I limit myself to the times when its free, but I could use it at anytime if I needed.

As for free dial up service at the Outpost.....It was still there in Feb. Just ask at the desk....they will point out the "plug" ins.

Yes, they still have modem lines at the reception outpost as well as the internet cafe in the drive through building.

While they try to steer you to the $9.95 service, the free modem lines are still available.
