I read some rumors that the IG might be closed temporarily while the Skyway construction is going on.
We use that back entrance a lot. The rumor article is from October and I can’t find anything recent.
Anyone have an update?

Its open. It would be quite inconvenient for several resorts if it were closed.
The boats were supposed to be down for a few weeks from late November to mid December. (not sure if that has been extended or if they are up and running)
That's about it.
I used the IG entrance several times a few weeks ago.

Boats were running over the holidays. IG was open including the Guest Relations and ticket kiosks.

With the way the construction is going, and the point it's at (we got home Friday) I can't see why they'd ever have to close it. They've got most all of the buildings needed for the Gondola in this area finished. It's really pretty by the way. I kept meaning to stop and take a photo on our way in but always seemed to be preoccupied and didn't

I can see why! Walking up to Epcot for the day to start, the LAST thing my kids would want to do is stop for another picture! And leaving the park after fireworks.....won’t even go there, lol.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the IG once the Skyliner opens - there will be so much more traffic coming in there, and I can't imagine that small entrance will be able to handle the crowds. Even at the end of the day, with everyone leaving after Illuminations, it seems like there will be huge bottlenecks of folks trying to leave the park for resorts, boats, and now the Skyliner.

This has been speculated and discussed in great details.
Things to remember
#1 is the capacity of each car. It's not anything remotely like a monorail dumping hundreds of guests at once. Each car only holds a handful so it would be a trickle.
#2 there's been no confirmation (that I've come across, maybe it came out recently) that the IG will be unchanged. Loads of speculation that because nothing has been announced it won't change but not announcing something and not planning something are 2 very different things.
