Anyone know approx. how long they take to heal in abdomen area from laproscopy? I am about 5 weeks post op and still have some pain when overusing my abdominal muscles. I know I am still probably at least a month out from being able to go back to Disney...but just want to be sure. Last thing I want to do is go on a rough ride and have one pop! :sad2:

That's a good question for your doctor. It may depend on things like the type of surgery

I went about five weeks after surgery and it wasn't pretty. Standing in line for Peter Pan, I felt like I was going to puke and/or pass out. I had to leave the line to go sit down.

I thought because I felt completely back to normal and had no pain that I was good to go. Bad idea. I agree that you should ask your surgeon.

I don't remember exactly how long it was until I felt normal again after my laparoscopy but I do know that I went back to college 10 days post-op. But it all depends on what type of surgery it was and what they did inside. Mine was exploratory...they didn't remove anything. It was just looking around and a couple of biopsies.

I do remember that the first month of school was rough but honestly, it was over 2 years ago...so I don't remember too much

I was able to dance without a funny feeling (pain, pulling) after 8 weeks. Your body may react differently to internal stitches that mine or another person's does, so definitely ask your doctor.

Thanks all! My dr. Had cleared me for whatever I wanted to do when I want to do it! Haha. Sounds crazy to me but he says I will know when I am ready. Went minature golfing today...decided I am not ready for Disney quite yet! :scared:Maybe in the fall when it is not so hot outside! :beach:

Wow. I've been wondering the same thing. I am 2 weeks post op today. Dr said I should be fine for our trip in a month. I am little worried because I am having a lot of pain still. So looks like I might have to do Disney light while my family goes commando. Thinking I might have to rent a scooter. My main concern is the car ride. We are driving from Indiana. I guess I have an excuse to always be in the front seat. I think I am going to have to face the facts that while my family is riding the fun rides I will be lounging by the pool at Kidani. My surgery was gallbladder removal. Any idea what rides are better and what rides should be avoided?

I think I was almost 12 weeks before I was moving around really well after my appendectomy. I was healing well, I just had pain. I think by 8-10 weeks I was pretty much "healed", but it took me a couple more weeks to figure out that the pain wasn't going away.

Two years later, I still have pain behind one my incisions from time to time, and I can't even find the scar anymore.

In terms of rides - I would just start light and work my way up. Anything that made me tense my abdomen excessively tended to hurt, so some of it may depend on how much pain you're in to start with and how much you can relax on any given ride.

I would talk to your doctor about it, both to be sure you are resting enough and to be sure you aren't doing to little. I know that one doesn't come up much, but if you are a person who gets a lot of scar tissue or Keloids, too much rest can be a bad thing. After I had c/sections for my kids every time people kept saying "you can never get too much rest" well, that was the advice until the figured out I had adhesions all over my abdomen from scar tissue. I don't gather that it becomes a serious issue for most people, but if you do too little things congeal a bit. It's something to ask your doctor if you need to worry about.

Went to see Dr for my 2 week check up. Said I can feel the pain up to 3 months. Not much he can do... and no good pain meds:(. So I am guessing that I will be doing wdw lite. So I guess I need to start researching snaks because I will be taking a lot of breaks. The thing that makes me sad the most is not doing the new Star Tours. We haven't been since 2009. Oh well being in pain in Disney is better than being home.

I didn't even think about Star Tours! :sad2: that is one of my favorites...and that will probably be one of the last rides I can go on because of the jerky nature and seatbelt.

Oh well..it I kind of nice knowing there are some of us recovering together! :flower3:
