Intermediate car ? How many really fit

Okay, I just found another deal on National. It's for booking an intermediate and I'm getting a rate of $130.XX with taxes and all. That beats my Alamo deal for an intermediate SUV by $11.00. Question is, looking at the "who will fit" picture, it appears that us 3 adults and 2 child (one of who is in a Britax Marathon carseat) should fit. But will we comfortably fit?

I'm not finding an equivelent SUV deal with National..any opinions?

You will be looking at a Pontiac G6 or Dodge Stratus type of vehicle. The Stratus that we rented had a pretty roomy backseat. I think that all the people will fit ok into the car.

However, the trunk, (though a good size) will probably only hold 2 large rolling suitcases and maybe a smaller soft sided bag or two. That is about it. I think you will be ok with people transportation, but not have enough room for luggage.

We always rent an Intermediate and we're a family of 4; 2 adults and 2 kids ages 6 and 9. It's always been a bit tight because of the luggage.

One trip it was 2 adults, my 2 kids and my 14 year old niece and it was very tight. We had to put stuff on their laps.

Thanks for the responses..I've decided against squeezing into an intermediate and booked a minivan through Alamo for $153.XX (that includes all taxes and other fees). Not a bad rate, but I'm still holding on to our SUV rental to..I'll discuss with the family tonight and decide which to keep or which to cancel. I'm now saying another $12 for a mini-van might be more comfortable for us...

the mini-van rate was using costco and $25 off coupon through costco link to alamo.

the 141.XX SUV rental was using 698805 and $20 off coupon code AD14 that I had found on alamo site.

Last year we rented an intermediate and ended up with a Chevy Malibu. It was a tight sqeeze for 4 adults and 1 toddler in a booster seat. My sister had to hold a small piece of luggage on her lap and we had to squeeze our umbrella stroller into the back window area. I think we would have fit fine...except for all the luggage.

It gives you a one car class upgrade using a Coupon ID# and a Contract ID#.

Don't know when you are traveling...but, I put in the Wal-Mart Contract ID# from Mousesavers.com and the Coupon ID# from American Casino Guide to get the upgrade. I got a price of $25.66 for a one day rental of a Full Size Car after the upgrade in June 2006. So...even if you are using a different Contract ID and saving more, you may still be able to use the Coupon ID from the above linked coupon to get the upgrade. If not, try the contract ID and the Coupon ID. It gave me the same $25.66 rate. If you are already using a coupon, then this probably won't help you.

We put the bigger luggage in the trunk and had a few small pieces scattered inside the car. It was a little uncomfortable...but, the ride was only about 20 minutes to the hotel. After we were at the hotel, everyone got out. After we received our room key, everyone else walked to the room and I drove the car around to unload the luggage. After that, we were fine.

The other thing about National that was nice was that I was able to join the Emerald Club using the information from Mousesavers.com

When we arrived at the airport, we went straight out to the lot...bypassing the counter....and we were able to just pick any car on the "Emerald Aisle". After we loaded into the car, we stopped at a small booth on the way out and it took all of about 3 minutes for the woman to process our payment and then we were on our way.

In 2004....when we went with Alamo. I sent my wife down to wait in line while I collected the luggage. After getting the luggage, I went down to the counter to meet her. We had another 20 minute wait after that, but everything went smoothly and we were on our way.
