There has been much discussion on tipping here on the DVC forum...parking valets and housekeeping especially. I found an article in the Friday, June 21st issue of USA Today very interesting and informative.

The article should be on theUSA Today website throughout the weekend...

The tipping point: Gratuity advice for travelers

That was helpful. I didn't realize that I should only tip the parking valet who retrieves the car, and not the valet who parks the car. Thank you.

We follow the tipping guidelines included in the orientation material received from Disney when you check in. Since it specifically applies to Disney, I find it better than generic articles on the subject.:p

Thanks, LEW:D . We actually tip much more than is recommended due to my days years ago as a waiter;) ;) ......

Thanks for the article. I especially liked the last question.

Q: And what about those maids? Are we really supposed to leave something?

A: Absolutely! Rule of thumb is $1 to $5 per day. At a hotel where maid service is minimal, a dollar will suffice. At high-end hotels with maid service twice a day and chocolates on your pillow, use the high end of the scale. The more service you receive, the greater tip you should leave.

Good article although we do tip when leaving the car & again when retrieving it.

That is great - I am hopeless when it comes to tipping and usually end up giving $2 both when leaving and retrieving the car. I also end up getting muddled and leaving 15% instead of 10% at buffet restaurants such as Chef Mickey's!

Thanks for the article - it has saved me about $24 on our next trip just on parking alone!

Here's a question--they mentioned tipping the guy who takes your bags to the room, fine...what about the guy we leave the bags with when our rooms aren't ready and we run off to the parks?
We are changing resorts twice this trip and that could add up.

Robin -- I don't think a tip would be expected if you take the bags over yourself and leave them at the bellstand. But, a tip might make retrieval of your bags later quicker. ;) If someone takes them from the car (or room) to the stand, I think I would give them something.
