Interesting thread of cabins now moderate rate

Looks like they are in the moderate category now, but the rates aren't.

They were classified as a "Home Away From Home" resort. But, that was confusing to some people, as that's what the DVC resorts are. I guess they weren't nice enough to call "Deluxe", so they're now calling them a Moderate resort. I doubt the price will change though. :(

someone on that thread called and price is the same. more people will be aware of them now i bet.

I was so excited when I saw that, because we really wanted them for our August trip. But I checked, and the price is still $179 even with the Aug/Sept promo! YIKES! I am paying $149 full price at POR with free dining..I was hoping for a better deal to make it worth switching.

It does seem that sometimes they go for well over $300.00 depending on the time of year. THAT is just crazy for them. I've rented them before, and they're great..only not for that kind of money. For $180.00, I think they're totally worth it, given you get the extra space and the kitchen. You won't get that in a moderate resort. I just think paying a Deluxe resort rate for them is some what deceiving to people who haven't rented them before. If they aren't familiar with the fact that it's a camping resort..then they get there, and find that there isn't a Deluxe themed pool or table service or even a counter service restaurant for that matter. This happened to friends of my brother, and they were shocked when they got there because they didn't have a clue they were actually staying in a campground. The travel agent they used told them they were staying in a "home away from home" resort. They're nice..but they're not DVC units, nor do they have the amenities that accompany a DVC unit. I think if you get a good code, or go during a discounted time period, they can be a tremendous value..as long as you are aware you are staying in a Camping Resort.

Nice to see they did indeed eliminate the $95 fee for trading DVC points at the fort for staying OTHER than cabins.

Last year in December they had a deal that you got a gift card for dining when staying at the resorts. Each category got so much credit, deluxe $75, mod $50 etc.. (I don't remember exactly, just guessing). Anyway this is the first thing I thought of when I read this, they are still charging deluxe rates but they're gyping us out of any specials. Grump.

Hey, my whole deal is they are still charging the same rate they always were. This "deal" is simply to get more people to pay attention to the cabins, and to be honest, I think it's pretty crappy of Disney to do.

In the end, I have pretty much no opinion on the matter, because it doesn't affect me either way. The times we do stay in the cabins, it won't change the price, and the times we don't stay in the cabins, it won't change the price then either. At least the cabins are still awesome :)

My first thought when I read this news was "now they won't have to make the pool so marvelous with a slide and theming, etc." Let's see... they get to charge the same rate, lower guest expectations, and save money...yep, sounds like a classic Disney decision to me.

There seems to be a lot of anger here and I don't get it. Do you think Disney is going to let the cabins fall apart because they've "downgraded" them to moderate? Do you think they aren't going to remodel the pool (which they've apparently already planned on doing)?
As I said in the above post, the only difference this makes is that now the cabins qualify for a 20% AAA discount instead of only 15%. And honestly, the cabins are more appropriatly classified as moderates. I mean they're really a category of their own, but if they have to be either deluxe or moderate, I think mod is the more appropriate choice.
So what's all the fuss about? They don't need to lower the prices now that they're a mod, just like they didn't raise the prices just because they were a deluxe (or were they home away from home?).
I think they're priced appropriatly and I really don't care what category they're in.

they were "home away from home" which is really what they are. Their prices were and still are comparable to, at the very least, a DVC studio price, which is also considered home away from home. You get alot more in a cabin than a dvc studio, imho.

OK, so they were home away from home. And yeah, their price isn't that far off from OKW and SS, but nobody really wants to be there. Given the location, I'd say they're most comparable to the WLV and they're still significantly cheaper than that. So they didn't really fit into that category either.
But all that aside, I'm not sure why people have this cynical attitude toward Disney regarding this category change. Do people seriously think the cabins will be neglected because they're now moderates? I dunno. I'm looking forward to my first stay there and the only reason I'd care how they're categorized is if it affects a discount I can get.

You have to factor in the number of guests per room. The cabins are one of the few rooms that will legitimately sleep 6 people. I think Disney has the prices calculated by cost per guest. EX. $180 / 6 = $30 per person. $149 / 4 = $37 per person at the POR.

That would be great if the $180 number you are using is the rack rate like the $149 at the POR. The rack rate at the cabins is $255 / 6 = $42.50. We are staying at the cabins in a few weeks, but everyday I call to see if something opens up at POR. The cabin looks cute, but being on the free DDP I really don't have a need for a kitchen and I thought you would at least get a queen size bed, but I understand that they are full size. As I have posted before, I will check in, but if I don't like it, I will switch to another resort.
