A study recently released by the University of New Hampshire and The prevention Research Center in California shows that children punished by spanking and hand slapping or other non-cognitive methods were likely to have IQ's that were lower by 5-20pts(Stanford-Benet testing). They did several studys using different groups of 2-9yo children and came up with the same findings. Here's the link, there's a lot more to it.

My bad, this had already been discussed. I think it's amazing that so many people have an exact number for their IQ and that of their children. I don't dispute it, just wonder why. My child is pretty darn smart and no one has ever even offered to give him an IQ test. I only personally know one person-Mensa member-who knows their IQ. He pumps fuel into airplanes, lol! Lotta good his high IQ did him, eh? Oh-I guess I know one other Mensa member; he's a school bus mechanic who dropped out of college and is just beginning to finish his degree at age 40. I wonder if either of them were spanked or hit for discipline. hmmmmm
