Lots of very interesting other links on this site as well..

http://www.foodtimeline.org/foodfaq5.html

-------------------------------------------------

I was born in 1949 - and here are some of the costs for my birth year:

Oreo cookies - 4.25oz. - 14 cents

Kellogg's Corn Flakes - 13oz. - 19 cents

Hershey Bar- 1oz. - 5 cents

------------------

A little later - in 1955 - McDonald's prices were:

Burger - 15 cents

Cheesburger - 19 cents

Milk shake - 20 cents

French fries - 10 cents
-----------------------------------

I love looking at old stuff like that.. Food costs; the cost of a brand new car; the cost of a home; hourly wages; etc..

Anyone have any other sites they could share?

If you go to the link above, you can see what the cost of the things I mentioned were for the year that you were born..:goodvibes

I also like to track price differences on the same products in different parts of the country.
A 2 liter bottle of Coke or Pepsi sells for about $1.40 in most stores here in California when it isn't on sale.
My wife's nephew manages a grocery in rural Texas, and he was shocked to see that price. They just raised their regular price to 89 cents, and his customers are screaming about how expensive that is.

Also, when I bought my Suburban, I discovered GM offered incentives only to customers in Texas. $4,000 cheaper than anyother state. But of course, they do call Suburbans Texas Cadillacs.

Cool site :thumbsup2

Whenever I watch game shows from the '70s, I often wonder what the winnings would be in today's economy. Now I can figure it out with the year-to-year converter on that site.
