We were talking to one of the reps at the DVC kiosk in Animal Kingdom. He said it would be at least 3 years before they build another on-site resort. He did say we could expect a new off site property to be announced and he said to think BIG! I asked ...Such as? And he said to think of places like Colorado or Hawaii. I hope he wasn't talking through his hat! I'd buy Hawaii in a minute!

yes Hawaii has been hinted at before.

Hawaii is noton my list - I would have to fly.... :guilty:

I'm right there with you!!! With our west coast location sometimes it's quicker to fly to Hawaii than Orlando. Colorado would be nice but I would think it would be more popular on a seasonal basis whereas Hawaii could be year-round.

Financially I can't see why Disney would do either of those... There'd be not much to anchor a Colorado resort for more than half the year. And I'd see them building in California before they built in Hawaii. Tahoe might work since its a hopping resort almost year round.

I thought that too, but this came directly from a rep, so.... I was thinking he might say Disneyland Paris or Tokyo. That was what I was expecting.

From the top, Michael Eisner has been pushing DVC as part of a big Disney development that is seeking investor participation. It would include a Disney theatre, hotel/convention center, DVC, and some themed attractions. While my sources have not revealed the location, it is a major city and will use the same basic design/build as the abandoned Times Square project from the early 90's. My guess is a big Texas city as it would split the difference between east and west and have more temperate weather than a northern city.

Thanks for the info Diane. Whether it's true or not, at least it's fun to talk about. I for one, hope Hawaii too.

DVC Management has stated before that after Vero Beach there was no intent to place anymore DVC properties off WDW property. It's nice to dream.

I think that DVC has changed it mind - there are more DVC member now -many more - so I think they are trying off-site again - I really think it will be Hawaii

Since they can't do Ca - I was almost expecting an adjoining state - but Colorado would probably be better.

That was my point. However, after all my ranting about Colorado...well another sight here does me no good really.

Allow me to stick up for the great state of Colorado! THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STATE IN THE UNION!

OH NO :earseek: This would not be good at all... I have been pushing hubby to move to Colorado after a vacation there almost 4 years ago. Problem is, I have worked for Disney for 10 years and he has been with them for 6. He says he is not ready to move away from Disney yet... If they were to put a DVC resort IN Colorado he would have no more excuses. Hawaii would be a good place too, but gosh I hope it is Colorado :)

With a previously failed project in CO, I doubt this would be workable but we shall see.

I'm not aware that there ever was such a statement.

There were actions -- but no words. Disney Vacation Devlopment (DVD) cancelled the DVC projects at Newport Coast, Beaver Creek, and Times Square. And there have been no new DVC projects away from WDW since then. However, I've never seen any press release, interview, or financial filing stating that there would be no future DVC resorts away from WDW.

The possibility of my two favorites in one - Disney and Hawaii! :cloud9:

I'll have no excuses about putting off buying DVC at that point.

Yes we think anyone east of us is odd (new jersey especially), yes we are no fans of Texans (who is really, they're the French of the U.S.)

Wow, Ouch! I think if you are going to bash Texans you need to explain further what your problem with us is. I take personal offense at your statement.

As far as Colorado many of us (French)Texans go to Colorado in the late spring through early fall to escape the Texas heat. Two summers ago we had 90+ days of 100+ temperatures.

Does this thread have anyone else missing our pal Richyams? He sure loved to "go at it" with this topic.

At one time DVC held options on property in Hawaii and Colorado (1995 - 96 I believe)...the Colorado property was at Steamboat Springs and I have forgotten where the Hawaii site was located. They let the options run out because sales at HH and Vero were so slow...the off site properties have never been as successful as the WDW sites.

I don't know what the sales rep was referring to, but since it took them about 4 to 5 times as long to sell the off site properties as the comparable number of units on site and operating costs are higher....I would be astonished if there are any off site plans in the works. I think other on site options like DL, France or Tokyo would be much more likely.
