Interesting read on 20 new things coming to WDW by 2017

This is a pretty screwy list! It includes restaurants and water elements from the 4 Seasons Hotel. How is this an addition to WDW?? Why not include every upgrade that Marriott, Hilton, and Motel 6 in the area add to their properties. Unless I am staying at the 4 Seasons it is not of relevance to me. I doubt many WDW guests are going to visit the hotel to check out the lobby and the gift store!

Also there are plenty of other rumors that are still swirling out there about things to come. 2015 - Epcot mystery Project 2015-2016 - New Magic Kingdom fireworks 2015-2016- Sorian update TBA - Star Wars TBA - Carsland (Although I don't see this happening anymore) And if all else fails Hall of Presidents will be updated in 2017 =). But on a serious note Disney shouldn't have to throw up a major ride or addition every year because the place down the street is. Besides every addition they have added down the street has been a retheme or a new screen based system. Even the two new rides in the new Harry Potter section are rumored to be heavily screen based while the train is confirmed to be screen based. The SDMT is using actual AA's and not screens unlike this new coaster. Not undermining the expansion because I believe it will be awesome when finished!
Never heard of this so called Epcot mystery project. I also haven't heard of any new MK fireworks coming, I don't know if I want to see wishes go yet either. Star Wars will come its just when, I also don't see Carsland anymore more of the focus seems to be on Star Wars. Don't forget disney springs overhaul is going to be done by 2016 and that will draw in people. New DVC at the poly will also bring people, the poly is basically getting a whole makeover. AK then finally gets something new come 2017 with avatar night safaris and a night time show.

People don't understand how much Disney really is investing into WDW. Disney Springs, Polynesian DVC, SDMT and that's just the major projects. Some of the eateries are cool ideas on a side note.

No offence, but the majority of those in the list of 20 are rumored only.

The only confirmed attractions likely in the next couple of years are SDMT, Rivers of light (maybe), and the nighttime version of the safari - which can hardly be classed as a new attraction anyway.

We've actually LOST more attractions in the last couple of years than we're getting new when you consider the parades etc that have stopped.

Do you think the "announcement" of Star Wars will keep DHS above Uni/IOA? Maybe when it is actually built and open to the public it will keep them above water.

I hope I don't seem like I'm being contentious...I just don't see how the "announcement" will amount to a hill of beans. The announcement of Avatar certainly hasn't helped AK.:confused3

No I am saying that when they announce and then build it, by that time the parks may be getting closed to being surpassed. But then Hollywood Studios will see a major draw from Star Wars just like with the wizard boy. Also Avatar was announced before they even started the design process. Star Wars is already in development.

You would need to go to WDWMagic to hear about the fireworks and mystery project. Not much was stated by the mystery project except in a single podcast the man who created Mystic Manor said he was working on a new attraction for Epcot. He said we would hear about it in 2015. The fireworks comes from different insiders including the spirit at WDWMagic.

Well the nighttime show has been confirmed so not sure what you mean when you place maybe by that. Unless you are referring to it being called Rivers of Light. Also Avatar is going to have two new rides as well. But I imagine you have seen the details that were released back in October. If not may want to take a look. Then we don't even know what Disney will do between then. We sit around and talk about things like we know every possible thing Disney has planned. When in reality we know what they want us to know.

Banshee ride is confirmed for AK

Now *that* is positive news...the man who created Mystic Manor is working on something for EPCOT!?!?!

That's awesome! They need it BIG TIME!:dance3:

@lockedoutlogic

Do you think this could all change if Universal/IOA passes AK/DHS/EPCOT in annual attendance?

No...honestly

Universal has nowhere to grow and Disney has such a mammoth size and infrastructure advantage.

It will never get that close.

Besides... This is what they're now selling - and most everyone is buying.

Look at these boards...people begging to pay an extra $67 in August for a Halloween party and the round the clock vigils/watches for "free dining"

It defies gravity...in my opinion.

Really lockedoutlogic?!?!

You don't think they would want to recapture their position as having the top 4 parks in Orlando? They wouldn't step it up if DHS/AK/EPCOT were BEHIND IOA/Universal in annual attendance? I know they will never pass the MK...but if they trump the other three?

Thanks for your reponse...your posts really make me ponder all things WDW. You are probably *right*...but it just doesn't make sense to me. Like you said...it "defies gravity".:confused3

If anything, there appears to be a synergistic relationship between the two. I suspect there are people visiting the WDW/USF combo who would have never travelled to central FL for one or the other..

That..has always been the truth and makes the entire concept of competition/response 100% irrelevant.
They have always made more as the other make a more...never going to change.

Harry potter...in a sick, twisted way...is a investment FOR Disney. They've made more gross and higher profits since the day it opened...and are about to again.

Only a more intelligent, disciplined consumer can effect change at wdw now...it's really the only way. I don't see it happening.

And I agree with all your other points... Especially the DVC "bubble" that will break with the next crash.
They've over expanded and tied themselves to the out of control consumer economy...under the "frivolous" tab. The whole thing is a billion dollar enterprise tied entirely to "faith in the economy" now.

But lockedoulogic...is Disney okay with Universal/IOA exceeding DHS/AK/EPCOT in annual attendance?

That's crazy to *me*...regardless of the synergystic benefit.

Look at it from another angle...

Assume in say 5 years universal continues to expand or renovate and they knock it out of the park...and wdw continues to rape...errr I mean..."provide the top notch service the guests want" to the masses...

IOA and studios get to 10 mil each (or 12-9) or something like that.

21 mill total

Say the Disney parks "stagnate"...
EPCOT 10
Studios 10
Animal kingdom 10
Mk 18

That represents zero growth in real terms to Disney...

Grand total:
Comcast 21 million annual
Disney 48

That would be substantial growth for one and no growth for the other...
And a 69.55 to 30.45% advantage

Or 15% more than Reagan beat Mondale.

And...universal can't support 15 million annual visitors in its parks. They aren't big enough...it's a question of geography. Disney parks have expansion potential/pads in virtually all directions.

The blessing of size.

There's a big misconception that "competitors" actually care to "compete". As long as both are making record profits, no one really cares who has the trophy of most-visitors. This is especially true because to each company, these theme parks are only a small part of their business as a whole.

Pridesdoes not drive the actions of Disney World. Shareholder value does.

Oh I hear you and have made the same point numerous times

Why did every shop in mall built from 1960 to 1990 have four stores sell the exact same products as anchors?

Why are lowes and Home Depot across the street?

Same with target and walmart...

Why do tech manufactured jump to get their products into stores that sell tech competitors...the best buys, at&ts and Verizon's?

Why were/are all the cars dealers in town generally on the same street?

Competition is good for business and always has been...people fall for it like a kitten chasing the reflection off a shiny object

I listened to the podcast that guy was not the one who created mystic manor what he did create is the new version of animator a palate on the cruise ships tho. He did work on mystic manor but was only a person on the side who was asked for his opinion and stuff.

Which is a >100% increase in 5 years. Can't imagine Disney wouldn't have taken note.

I agree...Disney has got to be thinking "Those 3.3 million new guests could be ours." I'm sure that's why they are going ahead with Avatar in AK. But it's not enough...there needs be something big and new at DHS and EPCOT, too.

I think you have to do something at DHS first because they have lower attendance than both Epcot and AK.
