Perhaps it's the fact that the DNC has just concluded, but I remember thinking the exact same thing in the months preceeding the last Presidential election. It would seem that a majority of DISers, for various reasons, are either Democrats or independents/moderates that support Democratic candidates. With all the support that I noticed for Gore on the boards for the 2000 election, I thought that Gore would win by a landslide. That did not turn out to be the case. I am noticing a great deal of support for Senator Kerry this year, and I'm wondering if the DIS is in fact mostly Democratic (or independent, supporting Kerry). This thread is NOT meant to be an ugly debate, I'm just curious about whether my observation that the DIS is largely Democratic is true. Please keep it nice, folks.

I find that observation really interesting, ead, but mostly because my impression is the exact opposite! I feel like the DIS is largely, and very strongly, Republican. Interesting poll!

I think some people are just more vocal about their beliefs than others. Maybe thats why it seems that way?

thats not a slam or derogatory I just think people arent always willing to talk about how they vote, I was raised that it was a very private thing and I didnt even have any idea who my parents voted for. Though I have a good idea now lol.

I thought the same as you, Ead79. It will be interesting to see the results.

I agree with that statement. I think the DIS is a majority republican but it just seems like it's democrat because they are the most outspoken on the boards. Most republicans ignore the debating and baiting by the libs on here and go on with our daily lives. ;) :D

I agree with BedKnobbery--as a Democrat I feel VERY much in the minority here.

I feel less in the minority (a position I'm quite comfortable with, mind you) than I did the last go around. In fact, I felt like one of 4 vocal Democrats on the board and only 2 of the mods! On the night of the election I was online with 3 of my fellow CB mods, ALL in Texas!

The difference this time around is the Democrats are way more vocal this time around. The last time I NEVER felt that Gore had the edge, not for a second.

I have never felt like the 'norm' here, never will, neither do I care to be. I realize that I am who I am and my opinion is what makes me me.

ITA, I am a Democrat and I feel outnumbered here alot.

Though most on here probably thought of me as a Republican due to my outspoken support of the war in Iraq, I'm neither. And moderate isn't exactly the right term either. Right leaning libertarian is the way I'd describe myself.

I think it's difficult to gauge where most folks classify themselves. Talk about taxes and Iraq and I'd be labelled a Republican. Talk about gay marriage, abortion, prayer in schools, etc. and no one would mistake me for a Republican ;)

Not surprisingly, being a Democrat, I believe the exact opposite. I definitely feel outnumbered, but I think it's because most Democrats ignore the constant baiting by the right wingers and simply don't post.

From my perspective, the Republican posts tend to be much more aggressive, insulting and sarcastic with those few Dems that do respond simply reacting to the attacks.

I have no doubt that the right wingers will disagree, the only question is how insulting they will be voicing that disagreement.

It's funny how people can complain about the other side while doing exactly that which they complain about.

I think these boards are moderate to conservative as a whole.
There are a lot of open minded DISers willing to read and respond
politely re their beliefs. then there are folks like me ;) who read
and roll their eyes at the others unwilling to move from their
position - on both ends of the spectrum. Even we unwilling to
moves are palatable. The DISers that scare me are the ones
yelling "Hitler" and making horrible racist and bigoted statements
about people, ie. not liking someone because they have an
accent. There's not an option for those people-thank you!

Not a right winger - I find some tend to use that term as a "catch-all" for those who disagree with them. I'm a moderate. I find certian Dem posters do the same thing you are saying about Republican posters. I've learned to "ignore" those individuals. It actually makes for a much calmer environment ;) I still read all the political threads I just participate a lot less. Tired of being insulted and called names simply because I disagree with their views.

Well said. Ditto.

So Republicans start it and Democrats are forced to respond in kind?

Interesting. So it's only a question of who will stand up and stop first?

Well, I'm not sure if I qualify as a right winger (my stands against the death penalty and for separation of church and state may disqualify me) but I'll take you up on it.

Since I can't get anyone to take me up on my Bush vs. Kerry wager (which is still on the table, remember loser leaves the DIS) then I'll make another wager. No more "aggressive, insulting and sarcastic with those few Dems". And I won't even make you go first, I will. Now, who is going to be "those few Dems that do respond simply reacting to the attacks".
What's the wager? I'll let you or someone else decide on this one.

Richard

I suspect that many of us feel like there are more of the "other side" than "our side" and that is because posts that reflect the opposite view than ours stand out more to us. I think that is to be expected. My impression is that there are more Bush supporters here (and actually your poll currently supporst that impression).

I also believe that because we just had the DNC, it is natural for there to be more Kerry threads right now, while after the RNC there will be more Bush threads.

I'm a registered Democrat, who is voting for who I think will best serve the country, regardless of his party. I am sure those voting for Pres. Bush feel the same way about their choice.

Oh, and I think their are baiters in both camps.
