Interesting political observation about the DIS--vote to prove me right or wrong

On which side do you fall generally and in this election?

  • Democratic -- support Kerry for President

  • Republican -- support Bush for President

  • Democratic -- support Bush for President

  • Republican -- support Kerry for President

  • Moderate -- support Kerry for President

  • Moderate -- support Bush for President

The DIS is one of the only places I feel outnumbered as a Democrat. This is a pretty conservative crowd, so unlike my neighborhood and workplace, as well as my extended family gatherings where everyone is a Democrat and everyone wants Bush out. If it weren't for the DIS, I'd probably only very rarely hear an opposing point of view from anyone but my husband, who is the only Republican that I associate with on a "real life" basis. :)

Judging from the poll results, it looks like there are more Republicans here. I agree with Robin though, the last election it was even more one sided.

I agree, cuz... I come here to hear an opposing view because in my personal world I don't know ONE conservative, not ONE. Not only are my friends Democrats, they're highly vocal and active,, giving parties and working the polls. Here I hear all views, and they're eye opening. I think it has truly given me much more enlightment and I do appreciate it.

Maggie, I do remember the war board when it was first introduced, we were LAMBASTED! (Hi, Willy! :wave2: ) Too bad, I stood and will always stand my ground on that matter.

It's funny how people can complain about the other side while doing exactly that which they complain about.

If you're saying that I was agressive, insulting or sarcastic, please point out exactly what I said that would qualify as either.

Actually, I don't believe either post did any of the above. There's a big difference between saying something someone doesn't like and being insulting and sarcastic.

Being told you're un-American or that you are helping terrorists by voting for Kerry would most definitely qualify and that's the type of post I'm talking about.

In my experience, Democratic posts (for the most part) tend to attack Bush and his administration. Many of the posts from the extremists on the right tend to attack Kerry, but they also attack the person who posted their point of view.

Btw, so far it looks like the Dis leans very heavily Republican.

I have no doubt that the right wingers will disagree, the only question is how insulting they will be voicing that disagreement.

Sounds pretty aggressive, sarcastic and insulting to me. :confused3

Don't get me wrong, I see it on both sides. From what I've seen, neither side has an advantage in personal attacks and insults.

That said, I also see people on both sides making good, well-informed arguments. wvrevy, minniepumpernickel, faithinkarma, just to name a few folks that I disagree with a good bit but also learn a good bit from. Honestly listening to dissenting opinions, even if it doesn't change your mind, is very important IMO.

I agree but I am a registered Independent voting for Kerry.

Can I be your lone conservative friend, Robin? LOL! :teeth:

I picked moderate supporting Bush to describe myself.

I always thought the posters on the DIS were split pretty evenly, with those who were democrats being slightly more outspoken (hence making it seem like there were more, when in actuality it is probably split down the middle).

Not surprisingly, being a Democrat, I believe the exact opposite. I definitely feel outnumbered, but I think it's because most Democrats ignore the constant baiting by the right wingers and simply don't post.

From my perspective, the Republican posts tend to be much more aggressive, insulting and sarcastic with those few Dems that do respond simply reacting to the attacks.

I have no doubt that the right wingers will disagree, the only question is how insulting they will be voicing that disagreement.

Interesting, because from my standpoint as a conservative, I feel the same way. A lot of the posts I read from Dems seem incredibly rude and negative. I will say that it is a few of the same posters over and over again that I am thinking of, and thus I put them on my ignore list so I don't have to see the hateful posts any longer. :p
