Interesting Call with GF RPC

I just got off the phone with GF RPC to re-confirm my ressie with my request that my room be desmoked for my son who has asthma. Well, the CM told me that all rooms in the main building are non-smoking not smoking optional. They are listed as non-smoking and should be, but they can't really enforce the issue. If they see someone with a cigarette, they can tell them to put it out, but if they "know" someone is smoking in one of the rooms, they can't tell them to put it out. They aren't allowed to "police" the rooms, I guess due to privacy issues. Well, to end, my room will still be de-smoked, but I thought this was interesting. Is this a new policy??

I know Cali, it seemed strange to me!! The funniest thing the CM said, is when I said, "Aren't all rooms in the main building smoking optional?" The CM replied, "Well, that's kind of a gray area!" I just think it's very weird.....

Sounds like you got a hold of a CM who didn't know what he/she was talking about. Those main building rooms have always been smoking optional (unless they've changed the policy recently). I would call again and remind them about the de-smoking the day before you leave. ;)

When I stay in any of the WDW suites, I have always been told that they are "smoking optional" (no one in my family smokes). Luckily, we have never noticed a smoky smell in any of the suites. When we have stayed in a handicapped accessible room, however, a few of those rooms have smelled of smoke (OKW & BWV immediately come to mind). My guess is that handicapped accessible rooms are smoking optional (I am sure someone here on the Dis knows the answer to that).

I agree with what you've stated, Janet -- to my knowledge, yes .. ALL main building rooms are, and always have been, smoking optional. And also yes, we've had a handicapped accessible room before too, and smoking was permitted there as well.
