Interesting article on low carb snacks

yumm.....i'll have to look for the z-carb candy bars!

I agree with the tortilla chips comment - not very crisp and unplesant aftertaste.

I don't care for soy chips or any soy product, really. I haven't seen this brand of candy, now I'll be on the look out. Thanks for the link.

DH brought home some CARB SOLUTIONS high protein bars.

The banner across the front says 3 NET CARBS, but when I look at the back, it lists CARBS: 16g. FIBER: <1g.

Then, down at the bottom, it says: FOR THOSE WATCHING THEIR CARBS, COUNT 3 GRAMS.THE REMAINING CARBS HAVE LITTLE EFFECT ON BLOOD SUGAR.

So.... what should I count???????

Oh cool, one of the links is to a site that sells microwave pork rinds.......for those of us who actually LIKE them :)

In answer to your question Flower, you only count the 3 net carbs per bar.

Flower,
You need to subtract the fiber as well as the sugar alcohols that don't affect blood sugar. That gives you the net carbs.

Has anyone tried the Endulge bars? The chocolate candy bar and the peanut butter cups were pretty good.

What bothers me about the amount of press low carbing has been getting lately - is that they focus in on all the "frankenfoods" that are becoming available to us... but don't discuss the overwhelming amount of things that should be the core of our eating:

protein
good fats (not trans fats)
Dairy (cheese, cream, and later yogurt)
low carb veggies
low carb fruits
nuts
seeds

and later when on maintenance some whole grains!

You would think by these articles that we just swapped french fries for soy chips.

It's not that I don't have one of these low carb snack food items once in a while... but these articles just leave the wrong impression about what really constitutes a good low carb eating plan.

There is actually a lot of controversy on whether you really only need to count 3 carbs from a bar like that. We have done some experimenting on the board with people staying away from "frankenfoods" (COOL term dixiedreamer!) for a week and most people had GREAT results...

Thanks everyone!!

I have a feeling that we'll be either leaving these in the pantry or cutting them into REALLY TINY pieces.

I couldn't find anything else on the label to deduct from the carb total at all :(
