Don't know where I've been, but apparently Disney had decided to call their Rapunzel movie Tangled instead of Rapunzel. I knew they were working on Rapunzel, didn't know about the name change. I have to agree with the guy in the article, it does seems pretty silly to me. I think Disney has a decent market share of little boys, maybe not as big as Princess loving little girls, but still they do pretty good with younger boys. They want tween boys and I don't think calling this movie Tangled instead of Rapunzel is going to change much for them in the tween boy market.

couldnt disagree with that statement more. that is why they tried to force Stitch down our throats for so long. thank god for Jack Sparrow.

I always liked princesses and princess movies, but even I am sick of them now.

I don't know about this movie, but I don't think Disney is even going after boys. Well, boys that don't like pirates, anyway. They're building this huge new Mecca for Girls, but boys...zip. It's like nobody at Disney ever had a boy.

All Girls, All the Time. I think that's their motto.

I think it is probably more to do with the overuse of the story of Rapunzel and the name to mean it probably has become more synonymous with Barbie than with Disney. The only way they can get a new angle on the story is to rename it.

I also think that the Princess and the Frog didn't do as well because it came out in the UK in competition with Avatar, that was never going to go well! Plus I don't think the score is as catchy is it could of been, no one big song to stick in people's heads. I really think they should of paid more attention to the score and a little more to the development of character. If you compare the depth of character in pixar films to Princess and the Frog, I believe there is a huge gap in depth of character!

I think the title "Tangled" will appeal more to preteen girls than the title "Rapunzel".

I also want to support what a pp said, Mattel has recently had great success marketing the "Rapunzel Barbie" movie, and the merchandise to go with it. This may be off the radar to those of us without young girls, but its definately on Disney's radar.

I heard that the name "Rapunzel" didn't have much recognition outside of the U.S. and Germany, and that they thought "Tangled" sounded more edgy and cool.

I think all of the above are accurate plus Disney is going for the Teen/tween and twilight mom group. "Tangled" sounds like a young adult novel and ya novels are HUGE right now thanks to the popularity of the Twilight saga and the price is significantly lower than a new hardback adult book. Tangled sounds edgy, hip and mysterious. Rapunzel does not.

to me it sounds like a stubborn shoe lace or some fishing line.

... and guess what it is going to called in Italy " Princess Rapunzel"
