After doing a timeshare presentation (didn't buy) we have decided we would like to buy through resale. Where should I look or who should I contact to find one ? I have no idea where to begina nd any suggestions would be much appreciated! thank you!

It depends, where are you looking to have your timeshare? We have DVC and love it.

Do you want a Disney Vacation Club Timeshare, or something else.

First rule of thumb is buy where you want to go. A lot of people buy in crappy areas because they are cheap hoping to trade out to better places--and are terribly disappointed when they are unable to. In other words don't buy in the tourist mecca of central Kansas if you really want to go to WDW and Hawaii.

Be very careful about buying places sight unseen. And look closely at the monthly maintenence fees and how much they've been going up over the years.

We sold some of our DVC points through the Timeshare store (they are advertisers that help support the DIS) and had a satisfactory experience, I'd use them again to buy or sell.

I suggest visiting the boards at http://www.tug2.net/ . The site is timeshare users group. The forums are free to read. You'll learn the ins and outs of buying resale and how to use your timeshare more efficiently.

Before dh found TUG, we had already bought one week at Liki Tiki on 192 west. :headache: After reading there and learning, we bought two South Africa timeshare weeks that we found on ebay. I'm not going to say what we paid, but it was less than $1,000 for both. ;) The combined yearly maintainance fees for both of those is less than what we pay for the ONE week on the Florida unit.

We did the purchase and everything from home using our fax machine. :) We use the South Africa units for trading.

Also you can try redweek.com for resale listings.;)

No not Disney timeshares, actually we really love marriot and hilton vacation clubs. We did a presentation at both and fell in love with both but I think we prefer Marriott but would totally buy into Hilton as well! Thanks for the websites. Any places that I should totally avoid??

Unless you are interested only in DVC, I would also recommend spending lots of time on tug2.net. Lots of information on buying, exchanging and maximizing the use of your timeshare. The site also has classified ads and resort reviews (available only to members of TUG).

For DVC, the best source of info is right here on DIS.

My advice, if you want to stay onsite at WDW and have little flexibility, buy at least some points for DVC. Plan on using DVC points only to stay at DVC resorts. Although you can use DVC for other vacation options, think of those as emergency back up plans for the times (which you think will be few and far between) when you are not using DVC to stay at DVC resorts.

If you want to stay in Orlando offsite, you MAY be better off buying a timeshare at your 2nd choice of vacation spot (with lower annual costs than Orlando) and trading in to Orlando. Nice resorts in Orlando are generally easy to trade into becuase there are so many nice Orlando timeshares. You can even trade into DVC, but you will not have nearly the options as you would if you owned DVC.

The experienced folks on TUG will help you find the right timeshare to buy for the vacations you want to take.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

I'm going to reiterate the importnace of joing TUG.

I found TUG before I bought my timeshare. I posted quetions, looked around and 6 months later, found a timeahre that worked for us. We bought a second a few years ago.

As someone else said, I would suggest buying a timeshare in a different place and trading into Orlando. There are plenty of great places to stay.

Depending on where you live, consider a timeshare during summer season in a beach location near you. They often has lower fees, and are good traders.

For example, Myrtle Beach, SOuthern California, Virginia Beach, Cape Cod.

Ditto!!!! I have been a TUG member for some time. Became a member first before I bought and I am so glad I did! I learned soooo much and saved our family TONS of money because of it.
