interactive cue: pass or not?

Interesting...leaving a gap in the line doesn't actually slow you down as long as you catch back up by the boarding. So the need to pass is really just an internal urging (which we all feel ) or a desire to actually get slightly ahead by passing the family who stopped.

I've never been in a queue where anyone stopped for a significant amount of time. I mean I guess if your kids want to play for a while in 7DMT or Winnie the Pooh then you should let others go ahead of you but if the kids stop for a minute, passing people isn't going to get you on the ride any faster- you'll still be waiting in line just 1 family ahead.

But it does make a difference to the people waiting out in the hot sun, or rain, etc. to be waiting to get into the queue if there's a lot of empty space in there. So while it may not be saving time, it is hogging a lot of the AC.

This is interesting. Ive never stood in any of those lines for Stand by so Ive never seen the interactive stuff. I know about the barrels and such in 7DMT because during after hours you pass them and you pass the stuff in Space Mountain and can see it. I think if it were me, Id just pass politely and keep the line moving.

I had an interesting occurrence at EE about a month ago where the line wasn't terribly long (30 minutes) but wasn't spread across the full width of the corridor. A woman and her child started pushing through the line and we asked if she was with a group ahead of us...she said no, stepped to the open side of the corridor turned around and said the announcement just said "to fill all open spots" and just walked past the formed line and around several corners...I think she jumped close to 50-60 people. The line was very orderly and everyone knew right where they stood -filling the gaps wasn't going to make the wait any less - except in her case she chose to use the direction and open space to jump the line and increase the wait for everyone else...
I think this is different than what the OP is asking about, but I find it super annoying when the CMs say to fill in all the spaces and people completely disregard that direction. So I guess I don't blame her for listening. I will stand there and wait a bit to see if anyone ahead of me moves to fill in the gaps; if they don't after a couple of announcements then I will.

When I go to Universal and ride Harry Potter Forbidden Journey, I will stop in the rooms in the queue to listen to the holograms of Dumbledore and the students. I just tell people to go around me.

I mean... did a CM make that announcement? It doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would happen at EE but I have been in plenty of lines where the CMs make that call.

In the Little Mermaid ride, no one ever stops for those that play the interactive sites. If the line is moving fast, can't see any reason to stop and wait.

I thought they pulled the interactive stuff from LM like they did to the gem sorting in 7DMT?

Put me squarely in the "passing is NOT cool" camp. The point of the interactive features is to make the wait for a ride less painful for kids who may have a harder time waiting, not to make kids wait longer because they keep falling further and further back in the line. Lines are first come first serve, not a race to the finish.

Now that said, I have never seen any kind of play delay that I would consider egregious. At most, it is like a 10 foot gap in the line in front of the kid before their parent gets them to move along. In contrast, I have seen several times people stride on pass anyone who is stopped for more than 10 seconds, whether it is because they are playing, or pause to check their phones, or to play patty cake or some other in-line distraction.

Asking is always preferable to assuming, as many people here have said. I would give the kid a little grace period before asking though.

Yeah, Disney puts a ton of engineering into queue design. If they designed a mob queue, like HM, they think it is the best option. The one places I don't really get it is on POTC. If the CMs are yelling to fill in space, fill in the space, people are too busy attempting to be polite to understand they are actually delaying the line.

If you are actually standing in line, passing is definitely not cool. If the gap gets large, just ask for them to move up. The only time I think passing is fine is if there is no line, like people stopping the SM line to play games or at Pooh when there isn't a real line. Then they are making the choice to play instead of joining the line.

Passing someone at the barrels on SDMT (outside of RD or EMH) is just being a jerk, you've got 20 more minutes of line after that, who cares if the kids get to play for a couple minutes. Again if the gap is significant just say something, or tell them you'll save their spot.

When did the interactive gem sort disappear from 7Dmt? I was there 1 1/2 years ago and as I recall it was there then.

What all of you are forgetting is the the queue extends outside in many of the attractions with interactive queues. So while you are creating a large gap in the shady, air conditioned area, people are waiting outside in the hot sun. That makes the people creating the gap selfish, IMO.

Then add on the kids behind you who would like to play, etc, and you have a disaster. If everyone paused there to let their kids play the games to their hearts' content, then the queue would be a mess. So, if you are stopped in front, sure, but if the queue moves forward, you move forward, or lose your spot. You don't own twenty feet of queue space.

Like I said, if it is anywhere near 20 feet I say something. In my experience it's usually five feet or less then they start moving in their own. Except for the games at SM that are obviously timed for people to wait until the game is over.

I was there a few weeks ago, I'm pretty sure all the interactive stuff is still there just like it has been. Of course, I hardly ever do stand-by for that ride, but when I went during DAH everything still seemed to be there as I remembered.

It was gone when we were there in Feb ‘19. I don’t know exactly when it was removed, but this article from Sept ‘18 seems to indicate it was removed around then:

Maybe what we see now is just a cover, that they remove to bring back the screens during DAH? I could see that as a possibility, if the reason they covered it up was due to holdups in the line, and during DAH they’re not as worried due to the restricted crowd levels.

Honestly the line didn’t even stop so what I saw could have just been that. I don’t think I ever go on standby unless it’s an event so I’m probably not the best to give info 😕, it just looked the same to me. I can see how that could be a hold up, and a major germ area too, I always hate areas like that because you never know who’s been touching it.
