:scared1:
my family inurance just went up 300%.

Word of warning- we had to cancel 2 family holidays last year, due to a drug I had been put making travel risky. My bloods are now stable and I am fit to travel so we booked to go to orlando for next july. I then went to redo our insurance when it ran out only to find that firstly they wouldn't insure us at all and then by seperating off my eldest (who is diabetic) on to her own policy they would now cover us. But cost has more that tripled for the rest of us and we now need to pay for her on top thus we are out over £300 that we hadn't budgeted for:sad2: Thus I would now only claim for major expences in case they refused to insure us in the future (not even sure I would risk a claim for a canceled hoilday unless it was for over £2000).

I have never claimed on insurance, tried last year for ash cloud but they refused. Same as house contents or car insurance, I never claim, could have many times but don't think its worth it myself unless its substantial.
Hope it comes back down for you next time.

Look elsewhere. Declare your medical conditions, so you're covered. I can't imagine paying £300 :scared1:

Also: the whole point of travel insurance is so that you CAN claim. There's no way I'd be shelling out that money and then feeling guilty if I had a genuine need to claim. We've never claimed, and paid probably hundreds in "unused" insurance as a result, but I wouldn't hesitate to get the service I'd paid for if I needed it.

Do shop around.

We always take time and hassle to sort insurance as my daughter has a congenital limb abnormality, my DH has drug controlled blood pressure and I have a rare breathing condition - idiopathic trachael stenosis.

We have just sorted out annual insusance for us with top dog which did a family annual policy and a top up for me. Under half what you have quoted.

should probably shopped around a bit more. But the next day (as could cancel for up to 14 days) a phoned a few others who declined to insure me at all so I just stuck with the policy I had. I have MS and SLE lupus and I am also celiac, I have 1 dd who is diabetic and on an insulin pump (and who also had a 20 cm benign tummor removed from her pelvis 18months ago) and another who has a syrinx inside her spinal cord. -you can see we really need next years holiday after the last 18 months we have had :sad2:

But the ironic thing is I am now much much better than I was when I renewed last year.- I had just had my first bout of transvere myelitus due to the MS and wasn't even walking! The cancelations are the only diff to the policy, and they were due to the imnuosupresent drugs they put me on to try and prevent more attacks as until my bloods stablised I was put on a travel ban. Hopefully if I aviod any other issues this year I will be able to change to another company next year- I will start looking about way ahead of this years end date.

I put it on here because if someone does have medical issues and has to cancel a holiday- if only reclaiming back deposits, it may be worth thinking about the impact on future cover- esp if medical issues are major and it may risk you getting any cover at all- I think I am now in that possition and thats why I would now only claim if I had paid the balance in full and it was more than a few thousand.
