several members of my wife's family are sharing cabins on the repo cruise we are going on. is it possible for individuals in a cabin to purchase insurance separately (and should they do it this way)?

since the people rooming together won't be "together", if someone needs to cancel, the other people in the cabin may still want to go on the trip. so would separate insurances make more sense, or does insuring everyone in a cabin together make more sense? who knows, even if people are insured as a group, i assume individuals can utilize the insurance for covered events while others are still able to travel?

does this make any sense?

also for insurance, i know i have to buy within a certain number of days from the initial payment to get pre-existing condition waivers. i sorta understand that the waiver is so you can use a pre-existing condition as a reason for cancelling or interrupting a trip, so if someone was sick and knew they might not be well for the trip, they'd want to make sure they get this because then the insurance will reimburse for the trip if they are too sick.

what i'm unsure of is the pre-existing condition period. many plans have 60 days, and some have 90. what's better? does it mean if a condition has to occur prior to 60 days to be covered or it can occur within 60 days? if suddenly you come down with something the day before the cruise and you can't go, would both 60 and 90 day periods cover it? what if something happens 61 days before the cruise? what if this is a condition you had already?

thanks. i read some more stuff, and i think if we get the insurance within the 14 or 21 or whatever days after initial deposit, that the whole thing is waived, and i don't have to worry about 60 or 90 or 180 days exclusions for pre-existing conditions.

That's my understanding. As you've probably read, it pays to shop around and http://www.insuremytrip.com seems to be what a lot of folks use to do that (we did). It is really amazing how much the different companies vary in price and coverage!

The 60 day exclusion or 180 day exclusion means that for that number of days prior to the trip, you didn't have any symptoms for a medical condition. If you had a previous illness 4 years ago that had not flared up in that time, then got sick again right before the tip, it would be covered. If you had an illness 4 years ago, that flared up again 2 months ago and you went to the doctor, then it happened right before sailing, it wouldn't be covered. The exclusion period means you experienced no symptoms, didn't require a medication adjustment, or didn't see a doctor about a new problem in that number of days prior to policy purchase.

Do different TAs have different types of insurance available than DCL? Mine told me that it only included sickness and delayed arrival (but since I lived within 20 miles, it would be a waste of money). The fine print in the brochure said it covers medical & transportation etc while on board. Is what DCL offers different than what my TA offers?? She said I have until the 60 day mark to purchase it.

Thanks for the help!
