Insurance Claim - how to get info from BA?

Not WDW but I'm hoping someone will know the answer.

I was due to go to Frankfurt before Christmas but flight was cancelled due to weather in Germany. The next flight we were offered was 2 days later and therefore we accepted a refund instead - this isn't a problem.

In order for insurance company to process my claim for hotel cancellation fee I need written proof from BA that I turned up in time for my flight. As I did online checkin the night before how can I prove this?

Any suggestions would be very helpful,

Thanks.

Your online check in boarding pass should be enough for them to refund your ticket. It is an intention to turn up - I would challenge them on that if they don't accept it. As BA encourages everyone to do online check the insurance company may have to accept this as there would be no other "paper trail" like there would have been a few years ago. Also they advise if your flight gets cancelled before you leave the house, not to go to the airport. Just throw all that at the insurance company!!

If you turned up and bag dropped you may have your baggage tags which would act as proof that you turned up because it has the flight number on them. Also the little tag they attach to you passport or boarding pass in case you luggage gets lots would act at proof also.

Hope that helps.

In fact, for many of the BA classes now (with the exception of the higher fare classes) you HAVE to do online check in or otherwise self service check in. You could use that as a basis for your argument. In fact, if the insurer wants vouching for that policy it can be found on the BA website.

Thanks for your suggestions - in the end the insurance firm got me to phone BA to give my permission to let BA give info to insurers. What a lot of bother for the £24 cheque that I received today, but I was entitled to it and had paid an excess waiver so I was blooming well going to claim for it.

It's probably cost the insurance company more than £24 to check the validity of my claim.

So glad you got it sorted Libby! :thumbsup2 At least they let you phone BA to give permission - often times you are required to sign a mandate and they have to receive the original copy authorising the release of your information before they will do anything further!

Thank you too for updating the thread to let us know. :goodvibes

Oh, no, the phone call just started the process - I had to give written permission. At least it's all done now.

Insurance claims take place in a time of some distress or disturbance in our lives. A theft of our home, a car accident, a health problem or a pet that needs veterinary treatment, life can be pretty annoying when these things happen so we need the claims process to proceed smoothly and effectively to get us back on track.
