My son is using an insulin pump for his diabetes. We have a letter from his doctor. How do the airlines handle this. Really don't want them to scan it and cause any problems with the equipment. Any "pumpers" out there have experience with this.

you can asked to be wanded if you prefer but that takes forever. Since there is some metal in the unit it will probably set off the alarm. It isn't going to interfere with the pump walking through a metal detector. My uncle wears one and he travels by plane for work all the time and didn't have any problems. Remember people with pace makers walk through without incident all the time.

A number of regular posters on the disABILITIES Board have pumps, so you might want to ask there. Follow the link in my signature.

DH has a pump and it's probably different at every airport. He intended to take it off and send it thru. at MSP, the TSA agent said to him before he could take it off, "Sir, you can leave your insulin pump on." He didn't have to have it scanned by the machine. But at MCO, I think he did take it off and send it thru. MCO wants to scan everything. He's got a MiniMed and it still works.
