Hi!

Has anyone had any problems bringing their insulin needles into the parks since the new security has been put into place? We are heading down next week and mom has one of those great little kits that holds her tester, insulin and needles - will she have any problems with that?

Thanks!

:D

(this has probably been addressed but I can't search the threads - sorry!)

They looked at mine, they made me open it, but never said anything.... just went on ahead...

Only 87 more days!!

We had no problems at all! They did have Mom open up the little zipper kit as a part of the new security measures though. But not an issue! :D

I thought it was kinda cool too that just about all of the security guards would ask Mom once they saw her insulin kit and her epi kit if we knew where first aid was located. They just went an extra step and I thought it was nice!

That's nice that the security CMs went that little extra step.
Another thing to think about is if you are traveling by plane. There was a little article in the Minneapolis paper a few weeks ago suggesting you bring along a letter from your doctor stating that you are a diabetic and need to carry needles with you. They said that security is not consistent in all airports (that might improve as the federal government takes over) or with all airlines. So, you may have no problems with one airport/airline and another may consider needles to be dangerous weapons that can't be brought into the cabin without a note.

My supplies weren't looked at in Mpls but we were searched pretty thoroughly in Tampa on our way back. I didn't have a note from my Dr. -they just looked at the supplies, asked me what the devise was ( glucose meter) and they were ok. They also questioned my son's game boy advance -- they'd never seen one with a rechargable battery pack. My neice's walkman also raised eyebrows -- so much she had to remove her tennis shoes and send them back through the xray machine. I'm glad to see that they're not afraid to question just about anything and also are very thorough with kids ( mine were 7/10). Northwest was even pulling people out of the boarding line randomly to have carry on's searched again. I'm glad we weren't picked on for this one.
