Installing granite tiles

Do granite tiles need to be sealed when installed on a counter/island surface? The people at Lowes assured me granite tiles do not need to be sealed, but I thought all natural stone had to be sealed. Does anyone have any experience with this stone on an eating surface. Children will be eating at this island.

I do'nt know the answer, but the manufacturer probably has a website, you could go there and see what they have to say about it. Good luck!

Yes, granite needs to be sealed. It is a porous stone, therefore anything can eventually seep into the "cracks". The worst things are oranges, tomatoes, citrus juices, etc.

The only thing I can think of is that the tiles come already sealed. If not call a stone/granite works place and they will be glad to sell you some sealant. They also have a special cleaner that works well.

More importantly, since you are using tiles, the grout will also need to be sealed. Grout can get nasty very quickly.
