My parents had AOL dial up, and switched to DSL. During the switch, AOL was removed from their PC. They would like to take advantage of free AOL. Has anyone with DSL or cable modem installed AOL since it has gone free?

We're on cable but nothing was removed when we switched to "free" AOL.

I did. You can download it from the website or get one of those CDs.

I did this right after they offered the free service, so it may have changed. Anyway, I cancelled my AOL service right before they offered it for free. When I called to get the free service, I was told that I had to reopen my account, then say I wanted to cancel it, then they would give it to me free.

you don't need to reinstall the software. I can't have aol on my computer, it has compatibility issues with my hp computer, and very nicely tells me so every time it crashes my system. Just keep your aol account, explain that you're using dsl thru another provider if you need to call aol for any reason. Log on to your new provider and go to aol's homepage. You can check your mail by logging in with your aol user name and password.

if you install AOL on a PC, it's never removed unless you wipe the hard drive.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

This is how I access my email at work, but my parents actually want the AOL screens they had gotten used to.

It was removed in Add/Remove Programs. If it's still there what's the best way to get to it.

reformatting the hard drive is the only way to get rid of all of the files it installs. AOL is a horribly intrusive program, download Firefox for free and use it to surf.
