inspired by tiggerlover....SAHM's do you ever feel guilty????

Well, I've been a SAHM for about 5 years now, but not by choice. My MS was worsening and I was advised by my doctor to consider giving up my job. It was a horrible decision to make. I enjoyed working and we really needed the money. But finally the disease made the decision for me - it really flared up. Since I left my job, I have always felt guilty. While I enjoy being home to get things done around here and I'm able to do volunteer work - I miss the day to day grind. I know I couldn't do it anymore, but I still feel guilty. DD is 13 now, so she pretty much takes care of herself. I suppose if she were little, I wouldn't have so much guilt. DH constantly tells me to stop feeling this way, but I can't help it. I'm a born Type A person.;)

I don't feel guilty at all for being a SAHM. I do feel fortunate, and I appreciate the fact that I can be, but I do not feel guilty.

This is something I had planned for, from the time I was 19 years old and got engaged, years before I even had a child. Financially, it was our goal to be able to afford for me to be a SAHM permanently once we had kids.

DH(ex) and I fully agreed on this point, and I made sure that my DH (whom I'm married to now) knew exactly how important this issue was to me, or else I would not have married him. DH has no kids of his own and hadn't given much thought either way, to women who were SAHMs or working, before we met, but fully supports my decision to be a SAHM. In fact, he prefers it, too. :)
