Since I've been having so much fun looking back at my wedding showers I thought I would pose one more question.

What was your most memorable gift at your showers?

For me it was a hand-made afgan my mother made. The name of it was Irish Bridal Rose. She started years before my wedding and the first thing she said when I told her we were engaged was "I better finish that afgan now". I love it and with losing my mom 7 years after that it means ever more now.

The ladies in my church had a quilting bee and made us a beautiful quilt. Its so special to me because a lot of love and hard work went into it.

My friend gave me a 'gift certificate' for candid photos of my wedding. When the big day came, she shot more than six rolls of film at the wedding. Since we've known each other forever, she knows my family, friends and history well. She was able to get shots that the hired photographer would never have known to get.....old friends talking with their ex-high school boyfriends, friends with their parents, people with the old roommates, college teammates, people who used to work together, etc. etc. Because people knew her and were comfortable with her, the pictures she took were very relaxed and funny and, well, candid. The album she presented me with after the wedding is even more precious to me than our formal wedding photos. This friend actually bought us a wedding present but nothing was more valuable than her shower 'promise' of lots of wedding photos.

two of my cousins (also bridesmaids) made me a decoupage vase with pictures of us growing up and special phrases that had meaning to us. on the bottom they glued a little message from them. it was awesome. :)

One of my husbands friends gave me a recycled gift from her shower. A wooden pepper grinder with a big crack

My shower was tiny and I can't really remember much of what I got except that one.

Funny it's the "made with love" gifts we remember the most----Gives you an idea what is really important after it's all said and done....

my mom gave me a beautiful quilt that she made. But the most memorable was from my grandmother...she gave me her set of rosary beads that she had blessed by the pope back in the early 70s. She was ill then and travelled many miles to my shower, but couldn't make the wedding. She died only a year or so later. They are very special to me.

My aunt (who was a hoot!) gave me a frying pan - and a garbage can - with a note that read, "The frying pan is for the food you cook that is suitable for consumption - the garbage can is for the food you cook that is NOT.. :)

This is the same woman - who upon learning she was terminally ill and only had a matter of a few months left to live - wrote out these explicit and hysterically funny instructions about wanting to be cremated (she was a very large woman and said she didn't want anyone "throwing out their back" while trying to "haul her big butt in and out of the limo, church, etc.") - and then proceeded to rent an Elks Club for an entire afternoon and evening to host a "wake party" for herself so everyone could say their goodbyes while she was "still alive and kicking".. Almost 200 people attended (everyone loved her) and she died peacefully about a month and a half later..

She was a treasure - an absolute "one-of-a-kind".. I sure do miss her...
