This will be our first time driving to WDW. It will also be our first time having a portable DVD player and Laptop with us. So what do YOU do with those items?? They won't fit in the safe in the room. There's no where else in the room to secure them. Do you leave them in your vehicle??? What about the extreme heat and how it may affect electronics? As I said, this is my first experience (going in May) and I really would like to know how you handle this. TIA for the info!! :wave2:

Hopefully , you will get some advice with this..

My advice, don't do like this one stupid lady did and leave her purse unattended on a bench for 20 minutes!!!

My dh and I were sitting down eating a burger on a bench outside of that Pirate counterservice cafe in MK, and a lady left her purse on the bench next to us for almost half an hour. ANYONE could have came by and non-chalently picked it up like it was theirs and just strolled off , got out of the park, and no one would have been the wiser... :sad2:

My husband will either leave his laptop in one of the drawers, like under the clothes, or put it back in his briefcase and lock it in an empty suitcase or in the back of the closet (out of sight out of mind). He's not as trusting as I am because I'd just leave it out in the open.

I will say that we have never, ever had a problem with theft or things going missing during any of many stays.....

I hide stuff like that. Oh, sure, only an evil genius could find my laptop wrapped up in my underwear! I :p

I try not to worry about it too much - it hasn't been a problem yet.

To the OP, every Front Desk in all MAJOR hotels including WDW has "secure lock up vaults" for items to big for the in room safe.

When you "check-in", please simply ask the CM how you and your family locks up items to big for the in room safe. Usually, you take the item down to the Lobby and they will handle it from there!

I will say my family has been to WDW 10 times (at least)...we have had laptops for 8 years and when we go we take the laptop with us AND we leave it out in the open set up on the table in the room and I will tell you NEVER has one thing been touched, taken, stolen, lifted, removed from any WDW resort ever. (Actually, any hotel I have stayed at) :thumbsup2

Personally I would risk leaving the DVD player in the open but not the laptop. It would be safer in the car IMO.

I thought the resort safes had been upgraded to laptop size?

:rotfl: :rotfl: see, great minds think alike. not sure what it is but when I want to hide something I always stick it in one of my dresser drawers. :rotfl:

to the OP: I wouldn't recommend leaving it in the car....heat can do damage, especially to the laptop.

I'd either leave them in the resort's safe or locked up in a suitcase inside a closet. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them in the car, between the heat & the fact that the car could be broken into.

I concur--even if it doesn't seem hot outside. Extreme temps are bad for electronics.

We leave our laptops in the room. We've never had a problem.

If you are too concerned, I agree about checking with the front desk.

Why not put your dvd player and/or laptop in your luggage? Then put a lock on your luggage and carry the key with you. That's what we do. We've never had anything missing from our trips to Disney.

I think they'd be safer in the car, but we always leave them in the room, either sitting out or in a drawer. DH travels with his laptop and leaves it in the room every week. He only ever had a company laptop stolen from a meeting room when it was left overnight.

Or put it in your smelly, sweaty, been out all day in 100 degrees Florida dirty laundry. That's where I hide my drugs....

Oh my, I'm getting punchy - jet lag, sorry!

This is the exact reason why WDW has larger safes in the Lobby at the Front Desk..NOT all guests arrive by vehicle.

I take some cash and a credit card to the Parks(my room key has available money on it). I put it in a pouch I wear around my neck.

DH and I use the in-room safes for our wallets and important documents.

WOW, learn something EVERY DAY!! I really didn't know that Disney had the bigger safe at the front desk--I thought it was the room safe or "take your chances!" Thanks to everyone for the information!!!
