We have been going to WDW since 1978, just about annually ('til we bought into DVC). We stayed mostly in what is now called "deluxe", Poly, CR, YC/BC (remember when Poly was $79 :rotfl2: ?) but they were the only on-site hotels available. When the prices and our family became too much for a single room, we adjusted. Then we stayed once in a mod (CBR) and once in a value (that was the year that we bought into DVC :rolleyes1 ).

I'm not :snooty:, but DH obviously must have royal blood :lmao:. Best vacation decision we ever made, thanks to the "King"! :rotfl2:

We had be cruising DCL prior to DVC.

If I had not won a trip through work and stayed at the Yacht Club for free, we probably wouldn't have bought DVC. We would probably be staying at Shades of Green, but much less frequently.

I agree that upgrades are probably because of overcrowding (and POP would be easy to refill because it's so popular).

I am, however, the personification of your theory! For our Disney trips, we have always stayed at POP . . . as I told my DH,though, I had come to a point in my life where I needed more than POP:lmao: (as fun as it is to stay there, though!!) I haven't been home yet (just bought May 2007) but I'm sure I will adjust quite well to my new life!!:lmao:

Sometimes we would stay at Port Orleans Riverside and other resorts. Our main hotels that we stayed at was The Polynesian and Boardwalk Villa's !

We were staying at the Polynesian on our first trip when we bought into DVC. We needed the room for 5 on that trip.

Need another option: only DVC!

I have only been to WDW 3 times and all three were at OKW. I have friends that are members and I tagged along back in Oct 2000 for my first trip ever to WDW. Funny story about that trip: Was at a character breakfast somewhere at MGM and I had an autograph book (28 year old male on first trip :lmao:). I was getting Minnie Mouse's autograph when this lady, very obnoxiously goes "Are you doing this for a fraternity?" I respond, very annoyed like, "No! This is my first time here!!" :rotfl:

These same friends, as a wedding gift, got DW and I a studio at OKW for our Honeymoon in Oct 2004. We also tagged along with them on a quick weekend down for the EE sneak preview in Jan 2006. That is when we bought our points (the Friends & Family promotion).

So I have only stayed in DVC resorts! Chances are that is where we will only stay unless we stay in one of the values on a late arrival.

We almost always stayed at Value resorts. It's a weird thing. We can afford to stay at more dexlue accomodations but I have this frugal problem and when it comes down to it, absolutly MUST book the cheapest trip possible. DVC is a good thing for me. :)

I am afflicted by the exact same problem!:lmao:

hey when I brought DVC there were no values...

and it was many years after before I talked mother into a value. didn't talk - say I am staying at PC next trip - you don't have to come.:happytv:

she surprised herself and loved it.

values are pretty nice.

also stayed offsite (and continue) - now probably more than then.

I said Deluxe, but......really I could have picked any of them. We've done AS Movie and Music, Pop Century, CBR, CSR, Contemp and AKL. I think the deluxes "win" by one trip, when you total up all the stays.

We primarily stayed in Deluxe resorts. We even stayed in the now-defunct Vacation Villas, pre DVC.

Another one here who doesn't really fit any of the categories. First time we stayed at AKL (Deluxe) then the 2nd time we were at Coronado Springs (Moderate) to save $. But twice does not make a pattern. I voted Deluxe tho simply because checking the prices at AKL last winter is what promted us to go ahead & buy DVC, although if we hadn't bought DVC we'd probably have continued on at the Moderate level until we were outpriced in that & then would have dropped to the Values...but we WANTED to stay at Deluxe.

We stayed wherever we got the best deal. Stayed at POP twice (hated it) but liked Coronado Springs and POR. We have also stayed offsite at the Grovesnor, Hilton and Best Western (when it was a Travelodge). We also liked the Disney Institute (pre SSR) because we could book last minute and get a great rate. Haven't taken my first trip home yet but I am really excited! First stay this September at OKW!
